PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chino Bandito (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gabilondo Soler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bandito comes into the arena with Slayer - Hell Awaits blaring out of the sound system. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Chino Bandito!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gabilondo Soler!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Fedor Mirinova and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bandito has managed to clinch.
Soler wants to break free but Bandito has control.
Bandito is leaning against Soler and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Soler has had enough of the clinch but Bandito keeps him there for the moment.

Soler has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Bandito clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Bandito tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Soler fails to take his opponent's back.
Bandito is squirming around, avoiding Soler's attempts to control the action.

Soler is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Bandito has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Soler trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Bandito prevents Soler from taking his back.
Bandito is looking to improve his position but Soler isn't that keen on the idea.
Soler can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Bandito is looking to escape.

Bandito is trying desperately to improve position.
Bandito is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Soler takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Soler is trying to take his opponent's back.
Bandito just holding on.
Bandito tries to hold on but Soler postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Soler goes for an armbar but Bandito turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Bandito.
Bandito tries to free his leg and advance position but Soler is retaining full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bandito throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Soler tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Bandito is in Soler's guard.
Bandito lands a couple of elbows.
Soler wants to stand up but Bandito is controlling him.
Soler is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Bandito looking to pass the guard.
Soler wants to stand up but Bandito is controlling him.
Soler looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bandito is one step ahead there.
Soler is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Bandito drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bandito jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Soler is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Bandito works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Bandito tries to pass the half guard into mount. Soler knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Bandito trying to control the action but Soler is working from the bottom.
Soler is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Bandito seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Soler does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bandito looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Soler moves into full guard.
Soler wants to stand and escape but Bandito is having none of it.
Bandito passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Soler is looking to reverse the position.
Bandito wants to lay and pray for a moment but Soler keeps working.
The referee asks Bandito politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Bandito prefers to stall for the moment though.
Bandito looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Soler is avoiding damage well.

Bandito tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Bandito working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chino Bandito dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Bandito moves out of range of the strikes.

Bandito clinches with his opponent.
Soler can't break the clinch.
Bandito misses with a knee to the head.

Soler tightens his grip and picks Bandito up, before dumping him to the ground. Bandito manages to land in guard.
Bandito lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Soler!
Soler wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Soler wants to control but Bandito is having none of it.
Bandito landing strikes from the mount.
Bandito looking to control but Soler is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bandito is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Soler is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Soler bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Bandito is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Soler thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Soler tries to free his leg and advance position but Bandito is retaining full guard.

Soler stays in close to Bandito's body and controls the position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Soler is fighting to break Bandito's control of his arms but Bandito is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Chino Bandito just wasn't active enough.
Soler misses the jab.
Soler checks a leg kick.
Bandito jabs Soler right on the nose. Soler blinks but takes it well.
Soler circles away from the clinch attempt

so Soler counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Soler trying to control but Bandito is working from the bottom.
Soler tries to free his leg and advance position but Bandito is retaining full guard.
Soler postures up.
Soler must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Bandito preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Soler uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Bandito.
Soler throws a body punch but Bandito moves out of range.

Bandito closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Soler's guard.
Bandito trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Bandito is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Bandito passes into half guard.
Soler tries to roll over but Bandito keeps him under control.
Soler has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bandito is working away from the top position though.
Soler is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Bandito is staying active.

Bandito is trying to control the action in half guard but Soler is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Soler tries to roll over but Bandito keeps him under control.
Bandito wants to pass the guard but Soler is defending well.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Soler avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Bandito.
Bandito is pressing down on Soler's thigh, looking to free his foot. Soler is holding on for now.
Chino Bandito overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Soler wants to get back to full guard but Bandito has passed into side control.
Soler takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Chino Bandito will probably get the nod.
That's time! Bandito's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Soler trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Soler pushes down on Bandito's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Soler looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Soler trying to control from Bandito's half guard. Bandito has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Soler advances to half guard.
Soler wants to control but Bandito is keeping him busy.

Bandito is looking to control Soler's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bandito avoid being mounted?
Soler tries to pass to full mount but Bandito defends it.
Bandito is looking for a sweep. Soler is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Soler wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bandito keeps working.

Soler is looking for a kimura but Bandito is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Soler to get the leverage.
Soler takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Soler tries to pass the half guard into mount. Bandito knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Soler blocks the strikes from Bandito.
Bandito wants to control but Soler is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Bandito is pressing down on Soler's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Soler trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gabilondo Soler has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bandito wants to sweep but no luck.
Bandito has Soler pulled in close to control his posture.
Soler looking to pass the guard.
Bandito is trying to keep Soler in close.

Soler has gone for a leg lock! Bandito slips out almost immediately though and dives into Soler's guard.
Bandito trying to control the position from guard on top but Soler is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Bandito pushing down on Soler's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Soler is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Bandito is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Bandito uses his free foot to push down on Soler's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Soler.
Bandito lands with some strikes.

Soler keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Bandito cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Bandito trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Soler sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Bandito blocks the strikes from Soler.
Soler wants to improve his position but Bandito is controlling well.
Bandito trying to control from half guard but Soler is working away.
Bandito sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Chino Bandito is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Soler misses with some strikes from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Chino Bandito.
Well Bandito has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
