PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dean Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Craig Stevens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker comes to the cage accompanied by I Sell Comics - Courage My Love. The crowd seem to be enjoying Stevens's choice of entrance music: Primus - Lacquer Head. The key to victory for Dean Walker has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dean Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Craig Stevens!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Winston Howard and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stevens shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Walker as he jumps to the side.
Walker scores with a nice right hand.
Stevens shoots and misses
and Walker counters with a big head kick but Stevens shrugs it off.
Walker scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Stevens closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Stevens prevents Walker from improving his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stevens missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Stevens is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stevens throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Stevens trying to control the pace.
Stevens uses his free foot to push down on Walker's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Walker.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Stevens content just to control the position here.
Walker on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Walker tries to get out of the position.
Stevens throws some wild stikes that Walker manages to avoid easily.
Stevens controlling from mount.

Stevens scoring with strikes but Walker is staying in there.
Stevens landing punches.
Walker knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stevens on the ground.
Stevens postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Walker looks a forlorn figure.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Stevens fails with the takedown.
Stevens shoots and misses
and Walker makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Walker lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Stevens shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Walker is trying to defend but Stevens finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Stevens looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Walker is looking to improve his position.
Stevens looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Stevens seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Stevens thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Stevens is taking a breather. Walker says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Stevens thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Walker's head.
Stevens looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Stevens shoots in for a double leg but Walker sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Dean Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Craig Stevens.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Stevens shoots in and bounces Walker off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Stevens tries to free his leg and advance position but Walker is retaining full guard.
Walker is trying to keep Stevens in close.

Stevens with a nice head shot there.
Craig Stevens has got the better of the ground game so far.
Stevens working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Stevens thows a big elbow that misses.
Walker is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Stevens stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Walker swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Stevens not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Craig Stevens showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Walker misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Stevens.
Craig Stevens seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stevens looks to score with a jab to the body but Walker is just out of range.
Stevens changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Walker tries to avoid it but Stevens manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Walker to the ground. Walker escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Stevens fails with the takedown.
Stevens shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Dean Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Craig Stevens.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Walker thows a body shot but no joy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stevens throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Walker's waist but Walker gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Stevens off to one side.
Stevens shoots in looking for a takedown but Walker manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Stevens's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Walker with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Walker scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Stevens tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Walker swivels and escapes.

Stevens throws a sloppy body shot
and Walker counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Stevens is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Stevens shoots in for a takedown but Walker shows good takedown defense.

Walker swings widly with a right hand

and Stevens counters with a shoot takedown. Walker fights it but they end up in guard.
Stevens missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Walker keeping moving, preventing Stevens from controlling successfully.
Stevens not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Dean Walker.
Stevens looks to score with a jab to the body but Walker is just out of range.
Stevens closes the distance and clinches up with Walker, looking for a takedown. Stevens pushes Walker against the cage but Walker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Walker tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Walker lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

and Walker connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Walker fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Stevens swings away with a body shot that misses
and Stevens takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Stevens counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Stevens throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Craig Stevens is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Stevens is stalling in the full guard.
Stevens loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Dean Walker has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Stevens looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Craig Stevens.
I've got Stevens winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
