Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Keynes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pete Damato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Keynes comes to the cage accompanied by Concerto for Four Violins in B minor. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Keynes!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pete Damato!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slapping body kick lands there for Damato.
Keynes pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Damato throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Damato throws the left hand but Keynes avoids the punch easily.
Nice sprawl there from Damato as Keynes shoots in.
Keynes uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Damato.
A clash of legs there as Keynes blocks the low kick.
Damato throws a jab but it's blocked by Keynes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Keynes misses with a body shot.
Damato throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Keynes sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Damato takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Damato checks a low kick from Keynes.
Keynes looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Damato is fending him off so far but Keynes persists. Nope, Damato circles away and we're back to standing.
Keynes uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Damato.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Damato lands a high kick!
Damato misses with a kick to the body.
Damato misses with an uppercut
and Keynes counters with a head kick. That will keep Damato thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Keynes throws a big shot that misses.
Damato on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Damato throws a low kick but Keynes avoids it.

Damato gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Keynes to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Keynes working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Damato looking for a sweep. Not yet Damato, not yet.
Keynes throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Keynes with a flurry of punches that miss.
Keynes tries to free his leg and advance position but Damato is retaining full guard.
Damato wants to sweep here but Keynes controlling him for the moment.
Damato pulls Keynes in to control the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Damato wants to sweep but no luck.
Damato bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Keynes's guard.
Keynes wants to sweep but no luck.
Damato pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Keynes is keeping the position for now.
Damato trying to control the position from guard on top but Keynes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Damato really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Keynes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Keynes lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Damato!
Damato in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Keynes dominated that round.
That's time! Keynes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Damato connects with a crisp jab.
Keynes gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Damato counters with a low kick, right behind Keynes 's knee.
Damato misses with a left hand
and Damato takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Damato shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Nice body kick from Keynes.
Damato looks to throw a body kick

and Keynes counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Keynes postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Keynes postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Damato is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Keynes, into his guard.

Keynes looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Damato has picked Keynes up and slammed him! Keynes can't keep hold of the triangle and Damato manages to pass to side control!
Keynes is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Keynes is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Damato off and has taken his back!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Damato covers up after that shot from Keynes.
Damato tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Damato is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Damato working to try and regain half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Keynes throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Keynes misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Damato takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Keynes throwing strikes here but Damato is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Keynes postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Damato looks a forlorn figure.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Keynes lands a heavy elbow.

Keynes landing strikes from the mount.


Damato is rocked!

Keynes has control of Damato's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Damato regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Keynes lands a big elbow - Damato is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Damato is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). John Keynes!
