PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Antonio Oddi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Oddi comes into the arena with Iron Maiden - The Trooper blaring out of the sound system. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Oddi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andrew Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Thiago Cunha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson closes the distance and clinches up with Oddi, looking for a takedown. Jackson pushes Oddi against the cage but Oddi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Oddi tries to sprawl but Jackson drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Oddi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Jackson pulls his head out easily.
Jackson content to control rather than advance.
Oddi is staying active underneath Jackson, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Oddi looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Jackson is trying to control the action in half guard but Oddi is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Andrew Jackson hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Jackson instigates a clinch.

Oddi drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Oddi jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Jackson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Oddi is aware though and is defending well.

Jackson wriggles free and stands up.
Oddi looks to clinch

and Jackson moves into the clinch.
Jackson prevents the takedown attempt.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jackson is defended easily by Oddi.
Oddi wants to clinch up but Jackson keeps it at a distance.

and Jackson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Jackson.

With the fighters up against the cage, Jackson throws an elbow but misses.

Oddi tries to score a body lock takedown but Jackson shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Oddi is trying to drag Jackson to the mat but Jackson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Oddi tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Oddi goes for a takedown in the clinch but Jackson prevents it.

Jackson is pressing down on Oddi's thigh, looking to free his foot. Oddi is holding on for now.
Oddi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Jackson passes to full mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jackson has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Oddi's face.
Oddi is wriggling around trying to escape.

Jackson working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Jackson controlling the pace for now.

Oddi tries to reverse the position but Jackson maintains control.

Oddi keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Oddi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Jackson pulls his head out easily.

Jackson shoots in but Oddi avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Oddi has his takedown stuffed

and Jackson counters by clinching up.

Oddi pulls guard effortlessly.
Jackson wants to control from the top but Oddi keeps moving.
Jackson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Jackson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Oddi's guard.

Oddi actively working from the bottom here.
Jackson looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Jackson passes the guard and advances to mount!
Jackson is breathing heavily.

Oddi can't escape the position.

Jackson wants to finish this one by submission but Oddi is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Jackson.
Oddi is trying to escape the mount.
Jackson wants to control the pace but Oddi is squirming around nicely.
Oddi is wriggling around trying to escape.

Jackson looking for a guillotine from mount but Oddi is having none of it.
Oddi keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jackson tries to control but Oddi wriggling away.
Oddi sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Oddi gets full guard.

Oddi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jackson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jackson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jackson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Jackson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Oddi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Oddi is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jackson defends well.

Jackson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Oddi is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Oddi escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jackson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jackson drops back looking for a leg! Oddi is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Oddi manages to kick Jackson off! Jackson jumps back into Oddi's guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jackson tries to free his leg and advance position but Oddi is retaining full guard.

Oddi pushes a forearm under Jackson's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Jackson is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Antonio Oddi!
