Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Big John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Headden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John comes to the cage accompanied by Jimmy Dean - Big John. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Big John!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Headden!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Headden keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
John throws a hook but Headden avoids it easily.
A low kick from John is predictable there

and Headden holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Headden is looking for a takedown up against the cage. John gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
A head punch blocked on the inside by John.

Headden has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but John regains guard immediately.
John tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Headden trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

John manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Headden manages to get himself to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Headden looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Headden has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes John off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

John with a poor takedown
and Headden counters with a one-two to the body.
Headden wants to clinch up but John keeps it at a distance.
Headden fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Headden fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. John sprawls well initially but Headden persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Headden throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
John keeps control of the position for the meantime.
John won't allow Headden to pass to mount.

Headden has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Headden just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

John is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
John is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Headden somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
John has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.

Headden has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for John.
Headden is landing with strikes. John can't take much more of this.
John breaks Headden's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
John is breathing heavily.
Headden lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for John!
John is working to get back to half guard.
John is trying to stand up.
John in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Headden lands a big shot there that rocks John but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Headden looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Headden breaks from John's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Headden tries to control but John wriggling away.
John is wriggling around trying to escape.
Headden lands a big elbow.
John in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Headden prevents John from getting the reversal.
John is squirming around, avoiding Headden's attempts to control the action.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Headden cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Headden lands with some vicious ground and pound - can John hang on?
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
John is trying desperately to improve position.
Headden looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
John is bucking up trying to escape but Headden cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Headden dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Headden scores with a crisp jab that stopped John in his tracks.
John's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Headden connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! John scrambles back to his feet.
John scores with a three punch combo!
John throws a head kick that misses.
Nice takedown defense from John. No joy for Headden on that attempt.
Headden moves out of range of the body kick.
Steve Headden seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Headden shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has John pinned against the cage. John gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Headden throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
John misses with a few strikes there.
Headden avoids a kick to the body.
John moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Headden scores with a head kick. John tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Headden connects with a jab.
This has been an exciting period of action!
John looks to land a right hand but Headden moved out of range.
John walks into a left hand.
Headden has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
John rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
John lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Headden circles away quickly and effectively.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Headden lands with an uppercut that bounces John off the cage and back into rage.
John misses with a hook

and Headden counters with a shoot takedown. John fights it but they end up in guard.
John knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Headden on the ground.
John wants to stand and escape but Headden is having none of it.
Headden cracks John with a solid left hand.
John wants to sweep but no luck.
Headden trying to control but John is working from the bottom.

Headden drops back looking for a leg! John is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and John manages to kick Headden off! Headden jumps back into John's guard.

John tries to improve position but can't.
John dodges the ground and pound from Headden.
Headden tries to score with some ground and pound. John controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
John can't do much from the bottom here.

Headden is chipping away with strikes.
John wants to control but Headden postures up.

Headden tries for a kimura but John is defending well.
John taking a bit of punishment here - Headden scoring with strikes.
Headden wants to control but John is keeping him busy.
John prevents Headden from improving position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Headden lands a decent elbow from side control.
John pushes Headden away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Headden gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Headden thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

John sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Headden is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
John regains full guard. Nicely done.

John is looking to stand up but Headden isn't so interested in that idea.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Steve Headden showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

John takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Headden closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Headden tries to land a knee to the head but John blocks with his arms.
John tries to score a body lock takedown but Headden shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Headden lands with a right to the head.
Headden lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of John backwards.
Headden with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Headden lands with a left to the head.

Headden has clasped his hands together around John's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

John is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Headden is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
John takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Headden lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Steve Headden has got the better of the ground game so far.
A lull in the action here as Headden stalls from top position.

Steve Headden is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Headden is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt John will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
John wants to control but Headden postures up.
Headden prevents John from escaping the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Donk. Headden catches John right on the button with a cross.

John gets caught napping as Headden dives in and scores a takedown. John manages to retain guard.

Big John has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Headden tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. John manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Headden throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. John was covering up waiting for the punch and Headden finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Headden not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Steve Headden.
John tries to move into range but Headden moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Headden scores with a jab to the head.
John delivers a nice body kick.
Headden shoots in but no luck this time.
Headden displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as John throws out the jab.

Headden shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches John napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Big John has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Headden is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Steve Headden comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Headden has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
