PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Ung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pouncy McGee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGee is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Anna Lucia. Pouncy McGee will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kevin Ung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pouncy McGee!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Daniel Cesar and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ung shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and McGee counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by McGee.
McGee wants to control from the top but Ung keeps moving.
Ung looking to hit a scissor sweep but McGee is one step ahead there.
Ung might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
McGee trying to control but Ung is working from the bottom.
McGee trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ung trying to keep a closed guard but McGee is proving a slippery customer.

McGee looking to sit in guard and control but Ung gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

McGee had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ung defends it easily.
Ung would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Ung trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
McGee not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ung avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

McGee looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
McGee is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Ung trying to stand up but can't free himself from McGee's guard.
Ung trying to control but McGee is working from the bottom.
McGee throws a nice elbow from the bottom.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
McGee has his foot on Ung's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ung works his way back into a safe position though.

Ung pushes down on McGee's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Ung perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Kevin Ung.
Ung doesn't succeed with the takedown
and McGee cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

McGee closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ung did well to prevent McGee getting side control.
The fighters are battling for position here. Ung manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
McGee wants to pass the guard but Ung is keeping the position.
Ung avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Ung keeping moving, preventing McGee from controlling successfully.
McGee controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Ung changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. McGee looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
You can see the frustration on McGee's face as Ung controls the position.

Ung is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Ung tries to advance to mount but McGee denies him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
McGee wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Ung wants to control but McGee is keeping him busy.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

McGee makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Ung looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for McGee!
Ung can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McGee is looking to escape.
Ung won't let McGee get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
McGee tries to hold on but Ung postures up.
Ung controlling the pace for now.

McGee is in all sorts of trouble here.
McGee tries to improve his position but instead Ung has taken his back!

Ung has got his arm under McGee's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! McGee has spun round into Ung's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
McGee tries to stand but Ung is controlling from the bottom.
McGee is looking to work some ground and pound but Ung has wrist control.
Ung not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

We're going to have a standup here because Kevin Ung wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
McGee fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Ung closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ung lands in his opponent's guard.

McGee looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Ung passes into side control.

Ung tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ung has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

McGee is working for a submission of some sort.
Ung makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ung.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ung holds on and takes a little breather.
Ung is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Ung wants to get back to his feet but McGee is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
McGee trying to control the position from guard on top but Ung is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McGee in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Ung keeping moving, preventing McGee from controlling successfully.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

McGee is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ung is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ung has escaped and now he's on top!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McGee not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
McGee can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ung controls the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Ung shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Ung prevents McGee from improving his position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ung is taking a breather. McGee says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Pouncy McGee.
I think McGee has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
