Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Josh Vendo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mister Birchum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mister Birchum will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Josh Vendo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mister Birchum!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Seu Braga and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vendo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Birchum as he jumps to the side.

Vendo scores a takedown into full mount!
Birchum keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Vendo is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Birchum to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Birchum shrugs it off.

Birchum defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Vendo.
Birchum is wriggling around trying to escape.

Vendo is working for a guillotine from mount but Birchum frees his head quite easily.

Vendo is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Birchum can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Vendo goes for an armbar but Birchum turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Birchum.
Birchum stays in close to Vendo's body and controls the position.
Vendo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
It looks like Birchum might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Vendo is looking for a triangle but Birchum pushes his legs off easily.
Vendo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Birchum's guard.
Birchum wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Vendo is now in half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Vendo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Birchum swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Birchum displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Vendo.

Vendo decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Birchum, up you get!

Birchum drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Birchum is looking to work some ground and pound but Vendo has wrist control.

Birchum must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Birchum is breathing heavily.
Vendo passes Birchum's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Birchum is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Vendo seems to be working for a kimura but Birchum defends the submission attempt.

Birchum is trying to maintain the position but Vendo is very close to passing his half guard.

Vendo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Birchum doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Vendo.

Vendo stands up and beckons Birchum to join him on the feet.
Horrible takedown by Vendo or perhaps it was just good defense by Birchum which made him look bad.

Vendo closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Birchum did well to prevent Vendo getting side control.

Birchum wants to control but Vendo is keeping busy.
Birchum is looking to improve his position.

Vendo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Birchum's waist but Birchum gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Vendo off to one side.
Birchum is looking to land body kicks.

Vendo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Vendo decides to stand back up.
Birchum throws a half hearted mid kick.

Vendo is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Birchum's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Birchum's back!
Birchum takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Birchum is trying to remain composed but Vendo is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.

Birchum is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Vendo gets his way!

Vendo is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Birchum has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Vendo has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Birchum taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Vendo doesn't care though - he's delighted!
