PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shannon Bannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Pegg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Simon Pegg!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Patrick Alders and Wagner Zegers.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bannon avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bannon misses with a lunging right hand

and Pegg counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Bannon is trying to break free.
A frustrated look appears on Bannon's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Pegg keeps control of Bannon as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Bannon blocks the elbow strike.

Pegg escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bannon falls off balance throwing a combination

and Pegg holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Pegg is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pegg misses with a punch on the inside.
Bannon wants to break free but Pegg has control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pegg misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Bannon.
Pegg tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Pegg is trying to push Bannon away but Bannon has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Bannon is looking to break free of the clinch but Pegg has double underhooks.
Bannon tries to circle away but Pegg has him pinned against the cage.
Bannon tries to break the clinch but Pegg is controlling the position.

Pegg jumps guard and drags Bannon to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pegg looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bannon is one step ahead there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bannon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pegg swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Bannon stands up from Pegg's guard - Bannon perhaps looking for a knockout.
Bannon misses with a few strikes there.

Bannon feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Pegg sprawling to the canvas! Pegg rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Bannon finish him?!

It looks like Simon Pegg has been cut.
Pegg tries for a takedown but Bannon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Pegg looks gassed!
Bannon misses with a two punch combination.
Bannon connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Pegg! He's out on his feet! Bannon rushes in and drops Pegg with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!
