Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Carl Sagan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robot Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sagan comes to the cage accompanied by Conquest of Paradise. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carl Sagan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Robot Joe!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sagan throws a right hand that misses
and Joe counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Sagan lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Joe has taken the fight to the clinch.
Sagan pushes Joe back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Joe tries to land a knee to the head but Sagan blocks with his arms.
Joe tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Joe has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Sagan is trying to keep an underhook but Joe manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Joe sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Sagan defending well though.
Joe thows a huge punch but Sagan dodges it nicely.
Joe trying to control from half guard but Sagan is working away.
Joe not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Joe is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Joe seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Joe missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Sagan is staying active underneath Joe, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Joe has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Sagan avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Joe.
Joe stalling away here and it's allowed Sagan to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Joe with a flurry of punches that miss.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sagan trying to keep a closed guard but Joe is proving a slippery customer.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Joe accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Joe trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Joe throws and elbow that misses. Sagan uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Joe's guard. Nice move by Sagan!
Joe not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Carl Sagan wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Joe shoots in but no luck this time.
Carl Sagan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sagan scores with a jab.

Joe feints and as Sagan raises his hands in defense, Joe changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Joe throwing strikes but missing.

Joe drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Sagan dives on top into guard.

Joe is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sagan is aware though and is defending well.

Sagan has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Joe is proving hard to escape from.

Sagan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Joe has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sagan has managed to get both his arms back between Joe's legs - danger averted.
Sagan won't allow Joe to sweep him here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robot Joe dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sagan connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Joe's hands.
Sagan misses with a left hand
and Joe makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Sagan lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Sagan jabs Joe to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Sagan scores with a jab to the jaw.
Sagan connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Sagan is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Joe.
Sagan displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
An inside leg kick from Joe misses.
Joe gets cracked there but stands up to it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Joe walks into a left hand.

Sagan misses with a left hand

so Joe counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Joe showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Joe throws a big right hand that misses.
Joe with a flurry of punches that miss.
Joe looking to sit in guard and control but Sagan gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Sagan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Joe on the ground.

Joe is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Joe seems keen to control Sagan's posture.

Sagan decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Joe, up you get!

Joe looks for a takedown but Sagan sprawls well.
Sagan is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Sagan scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Joe doesn't seem bothered though.
Sagan is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Sagan stuns Joe with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Sagan throws a hook but Joe blocks it.
Sagan moves out of range of the body kick from Joe.
Joe shoots for a takedown but Sagan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Sagan lands a jab to the head.
Sagan avoids a kick to the body.
Sagan swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

A looping hook to the body misses from Sagan. Joe does a little dance to reset his feet.
Sagan throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Joe on the side of the head.
Sagan misses with a hook.
Sagan misses the jab.
Sagan throws a lazy uppercut
and Joe counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Joe's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Sagan connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Joe scrambles back to his feet.
Sagan throws an off balance right hand
and Joe counters with an outside leg kick.
Sagan scores with a jab to the head.
Sagan lands with a nice body punch.
Sagan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Joe moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Carl Sagan will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Joe dives in and grabs Sagan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sagan pushes down on Joe's head and hops out.
Joe keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Joe takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Joe just misses with a punch to the body.
Sagan throws a right hand that misses

and Joe counters with a single leg into guard. Sagan didn't expect that.

Sagan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Joe passes Sagan's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Joe is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Sagan on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sagan tries to get out of the position.
Sagan keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Joe is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Joe throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Joe is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Joe is stalling here but it's allowed Sagan to get half guard.
Joe is looking to advance position but Sagan won't allow it.
Sagan avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Joe.
Joe takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Robot Joe has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sagan taking some punishment here, with Joe in his half guard.
Sagan is not content to let Joe control the position.

Joe is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sagan defends it well.

Joe sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Sagan defending well though.
Joe is stalling here. Sagan is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Joe seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Sagan has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Joe regains half guard.
Joe manages to get to full guard.
Joe tries to land a sweep but no joy.

And that's the end of the fight!
Robot Joe comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Joe has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
