Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Shields!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez fails in his attempt to clinch.
Shields circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sanchez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Shields counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Sanchez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Sanchez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Shields manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sanchez misses with a takedown attempt
and Shields counters with a nice uppercut.

and Shields cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

letting Shields counter with a right hand.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Sanchez enables Shields to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Sanchez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Sanchez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Shields controls the pace.
Sanchez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shields's guard.

Shields wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

We're going to have a standup here because Diego Sanchez wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

and Shields counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Shields stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sanchez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sanchez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

and Shields decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sanchez's guard.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Sanchez is looking to stand up but Shields isn't so interested in that idea.

Sanchez lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Shields!

Shields is desperately trying to improve his position but Sanchez has a good base and remains in mount.

Sanchez misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Shields avoids a strike by Sanchez and manages to complete a very nice reversal in the process, to end up in Sanchez's guard! Fantastic escape!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Jake Shields has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Shields drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Sanchez scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Diego Sanchez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jake Shields is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jake Shields comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Shields winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
