PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Dunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jory Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dunn's entrance music is All the way turnt up. A fine choice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ryan Dunn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jory Diaz!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dunn gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Diaz.
Diaz lands a really nice looking cross but Dunn seems unphased.
Dunn fails with a takedown attempt.
Diaz throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Dunn swings widly with a right hand
and Diaz counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Dunn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Diaz manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Diaz tries to hold on but Dunn pushes him away.

Dunn swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Diaz is now in Dunn's guard. A big mistake from Dunn there, giving up the dominant position!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Diaz won't allow Dunn to sweep him here.

Dunn had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Diaz defends it easily.
Diaz trying to control the position from guard on top but Dunn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Dunn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Diaz doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Diaz manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dunn looking for a guillotine here but Diaz defends easily.

Dunn had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Diaz defends it easily.

Diaz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dunn has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Diaz has managed to get both his arms back between Dunn's legs - danger averted.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Dunn wriggles free and stands up.
Dunn ducks under a wild hook from Diaz.
Dunn shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Diaz sprawls well. Diaz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Dunn gets slowly back to his feet.

Dunn clinches up with Diaz and pushes him back against the cage.
Diaz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Dunn walks away with a smile on his face. Diaz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ryan Dunn will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Diaz takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Diaz connects with a good right hand that stumbles Dunn. Dunn circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Dunn swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Diaz counters with a series of strikes. Dunn will be more careful next time no doubt.
Dunn closes the distance and clinches up with Diaz, looking for a takedown. Dunn pushes Diaz against the cage but Diaz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Diaz lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Dunn backs up against the cage.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Dunn.
Diaz connects with a nice looking jab.
Dunn lands a head kick. Diaz smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

and Dunn counters with a head kick.
Diaz scores with a nice head shot.
Diaz lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Diaz shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Dunn eats them both and turns towards Diaz to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

and Dunn counters with a single leg into guard. Diaz didn't expect that.
Dunn is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Dunn drops back looking for a leg! Diaz is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Diaz manages to kick Dunn off! Dunn jumps back into Diaz's guard.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Dunn forces his way into half guard.
Diaz is staying active underneath Dunn, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Diaz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dunn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Nice strikes from Dunn there.

Dunn passes the guard and advances to mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dunn wants to finish this one by submission but Diaz is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Dunn.
Dunn lands a heavy elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Diaz defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Dunn.
Dunn looking to control but Diaz is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Dunn dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Dunn pushes Diaz up against the cage in a clinch.
Diaz tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Dunn just stands there and leans against the cage.

Dunn breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Dunn tries to clinch up but Diaz circles away and keeps his distance.
Dunn digs a good hook to Diaz's body.

Dunn moves into the clinch.

No joy there for Diaz, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Dunn throws a series of strikes that have Diaz backpedaling.
Ryan Dunn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Dunn drives through with a takedown into Diaz's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Dunn is pushing down on Diaz's leg trying to pass to half guard. Diaz is fighting to maintain full guard but Dunn has managed to sneak the leg through.

Dunn is trying to work for a kimura but Diaz is defending well.
Dunn is trying to control. Diaz wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Dunn uses his free foot to push down on Diaz's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Diaz.
Dunn can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Diaz is looking to escape.

Dunn is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Diaz is surviving well by controlling Dunn's body position as best he can.

Ryan Dunn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Diaz is squirming around, avoiding Dunn's attempts to control the action.
Jory Diaz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Diaz tries to lock up and control but Dunn gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ryan Dunn showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dunn, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
