The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sands looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Bunn scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Sands gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Bunn counters with a left to the body.
Sands takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Sands misses with an attempted mid kick.
Sands gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Sands takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Sands shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Bunn decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sands's guard.
Gary Bunn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joel Sands.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bunn is pushing down on Sands's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sands is fighting to maintain full guard but Bunn has managed to sneak the leg through.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Bunn lands a nice short elbow.
Bunn content to control rather than advance.

Bunn slips a nice elbow through Sands's hands, connecting with Sands's forehead.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bunn connects with a nice short shot to Sands's temple.
Sands has hold of Bunn's hands but Bunn slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Still in half guard, Bunn seems content to control.

Bunn is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Bunn is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Bunn stalling.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Bunn lands a nice short elbow.
Sands really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bunn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Bunn wants to work for an arm triangle but Sands is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Sands on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Bunn winds up and cracks Sands with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Bunn cracks Sands with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Sands drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Bunn circles away from the clinch attempt
and Bunn counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Sands looks to land a body kick but Bunn moved away.

Bunn gets the takedown into side control.
Bunn connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Sands some visible discomfort.

Bunn cracks Sands with a big right hand but Sands just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bunn tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bunn has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Sands is breathing heavily.
Bunn is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Sands tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Bunn content just to control the position here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sands is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Bunn locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Sands is forced to tap!
