Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Christian Guzman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randy Castillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Castillo has chosen New Divde as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Christian Guzman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Randy Castillo!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Skip Squint and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Guzman closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Guzman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Castillo keeps working.

Guzman is trying to work for a kimura but Castillo is defending well.
Guzman takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Guzman missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Guzman is working for a submission of some sort.
Castillo is trying to stand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Guzman is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Guzman is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Guzman is breathing heavily.
Castillo is not content to let Guzman control the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Castillo throws a right and a left that Guzman avoids nicely.
Guzman slips a jab and a cross from Castillo.
No joy there for Castillo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Castillo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Guzman paws at him with a jab and circles away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Guzman shoots in looking for a takedown. Castillo tries to sprawl out of it but Guzman keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Castillo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Castillo wants to clinch.
Guzman fails with the takedown.
Castillo doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Guzman counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Castillo!

Guzman swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Castillo is now in Guzman's guard. A big mistake from Guzman there, giving up the dominant position!
Guzman is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Castillo decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Guzman, up you get!

Castillo stalks Guzman and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Guzman's face. Guzman staggers backwards, shaken.

and Guzman counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Castillo is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Castillo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Guzman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Guzman wants to get up but he can't break Castillo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Guzman wants to pass the guard but Castillo is keeping the position.
Castillo is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Castillo tries for a takedown but Guzman circles away easily

and Guzman decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Castillo's guard.
Christian Guzman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Randy Castillo.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Castillo throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Guzman.
Castillo misses with a looping left.
Castillo fails to land with a series of punches.

Guzman bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Guzman just content to control the position.

Guzman is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Castillo has escaped the position, nice work there.
Guzman cracks Castillo with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Guzman takes a little break here. Castillo wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Guzman stands up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Castillo misses with a hook. Guzman ducked under it nicely.

Guzman shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Castillo preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Guzman stands up and beckons Castillo to join him on the feet.
Castillo throws a series of punches but Guzman moves out of range.

Guzman lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Castillo wants to clinch

and Guzman counters with a single leg into guard. Castillo didn't expect that.
Castillo pulls Guzman in to control the position.

Guzman postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Castillo is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Guzman, into his guard.

Guzman could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Guzman working a defensive guard but Castillo manages to pass into side control anyway.

Guzman explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Guzman stuffs the takedown attempt from Castillo. Castillo gets slowly back to his feet.
Castillo closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Castillo misses with a jab, cross combination.
Guzman tries to close the distance and clinch up but Castillo swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Christian Guzman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Guzman is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Guzman stops Castillo from getting back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Guzman is stalling here. Castillo is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Guzman seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Castillo has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Guzman fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Castillo wants to break free but Guzman has control.
Castillo wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Guzman has him pressed against the cage.
Guzman tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Castillo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Castillo is trying to escape back to his feet but Guzman uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Castillo is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Guzman asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Guzman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
