Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bowman Rook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Omar Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rook comes into the arena with Daughtry-What I Want blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cortez throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Rook counters with a lovely shot to the body.

and Rook counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Rook scores with a hook to the body. Cortez takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Rook throws a right hand that misses
and Cortez counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Rook could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Rook misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cortez can do anything to dispel that myth.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

and Rook connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cortez moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Cortez's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Rook connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Cortez scrambles back to his feet.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Rook shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cortez pinned against the cage. Cortez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Rook makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Cortez scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Rook lands with a shot to the body.
Rook jabs Cortez to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Rook lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

and Rook counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Cortez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Rook did well to prevent Cortez getting side control.
Cortez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rook. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Rook kicks Cortez off and gets to his feet.

Omar Cortez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rook swings for the body but Cortez moves out of range.

Rook has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cortez avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Rook manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cortez manages to get himself to full guard.
Rook has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Rook is looking to work some ground and pound but Cortez has wrist control.
Rook is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cortez can do to turn this around?

Cortez wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Cortez is looking for a sweep. Rook is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Rook thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cortez's head.

Well Rook has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
