Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fedor Russian!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, North South!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

South shoots in and bounces Russian off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
South wants to stand but Russian is controlling his posture from full guard.
South trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Russian manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
South being controlled here, momentarily.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if South can do anything to dispel that myth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

South keeping full guard, as Russian tries to pass.
South is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
South wants to stand up but Russian is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Fedor Russian.
South tries to clinch up
enabling Russian to counter with a crisp jab.
South displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Russian.

South tries to land a front kick but Russian steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

South fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
South throws a left and a right that both miss
and Russian counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Russian throws a series of punches but South moves out of range.
South is looking to clinch but Russian is avoiding it.
South shoots for a double leg takedown but Russian sprawls well. He's pushed South's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

South darts in and clinches Russian up against the cage.
Russian throws an elbow but it misses.

South prevents the takedown attempt.
South jumps guard but Russian stands there with South around his waist. South gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

South drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Russian gets the underhooks and prevents it.
South dodges an elbow strike from Russian.

South throws a strike but Russian rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

South is looking to stand up but Russian isn't so interested in that idea.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

We're going to have a standup here because Fedor Russian wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
South tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Russian gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and South counters with a nice double leg into guard.
South trying to control the position from guard on top but Russian is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
South would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Russian will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
South passes into half guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
South gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

South feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Russian avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Russian wants to stand up but South is controlling him.
South throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Russian works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
South looking to sit in guard and control but Russian gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

South wants to sweep but no luck.
Russian pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. South is keeping the position for now.
Russian throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Russian won't allow South to get back to his feet.

South manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Russian throws a low kick but it's checked well by South.
South looks for a takedown but Russian sprawls well.
South shoots for a double leg takedown but Russian sprawls well. He's pushed South's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Russian darts in and clinches South up against the cage.

South breaks the clinch.

South closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Russian's guard.
South is breathing heavily.
South wants to pass the guard but Russian is keeping the position.
Russian is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Russian looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

South is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Russian is trying to control the position but South postures up.
South postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

South sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Russian's guard.

North South has got the better of the ground game so far.

South decides to stand up, so the ref orders Russian to his feet.
Russian throws a series of punches but South moves out of range.
No luck for South with that takedown attempt.
Russian misses with a few strikes there.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Russian takes a swing at South's ribcage but misses.
Russian swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and South decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Russian's guard.

South decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
South looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
South fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

A left lands for Russian.
Russian clobbers South with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Russian is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

South takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Russian throws a right hand that South ducks under and follows up with a left that South also avoids with ease.

South looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Russian is fending him off so far but South persists. Nope, Russian circles away and we're back to standing.

Russian dives in and grabs South's left leg, looking for a takedown. South pushes down on Russian's head and hops out.
South circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sloppy strikes from South. Those never looked like landing.
Russian misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Fedor Russian is winning the standup battle so far.
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.
South has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
South misses with a takedown attempt - Russian sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

South shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Russian sprawls well. Russian wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. South gets slowly back to his feet.

and Russian cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
South tries to close the distance and clinch up but Russian swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Russian is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Russian shoots in looking for a takedown. South tries to sprawl out of it but Russian keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. South manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
South shoots in but Russian avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Russian stuffs the takedown.
South throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Russian throws a series of punches but South avoids them all with ease.
South tries to score a power double leg takedown but Russian sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten South somewhat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from South.
South fails with the takedown.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Russian throws a nice looking combination but South bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Russian lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but South circles away quickly and effectively.

South is wobbling all over the place through exhaustion. Will he make it to the final bell?
Russian is not content to let South control the position.
Russian struggling a bit here.
Russian is looking to reverse the position.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. North South wasn't active enough on the ground.
South shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Russian as he avoids it easily.

Russian misses with a series of wild punches.
Fedor Russian is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
South shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Russian pinned against the cage. Russian gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to North South.
I think South has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
