PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kong Le (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fast Punch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Le kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Ave Maria. Punch is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Prodigy - Hot Ride . Kong Le has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kong Le!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fast Punch!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Cecil Peabody and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Le punishes Punch's body with a nice straight punch.
Punch stalks Le and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Le's face. Le staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Kong Le has been cut.
Le throws a leg kick but Punch moved away.
Punch blocks a low kick nicely.
Le throws a solid leg kick but Punch takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Le.
Le swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Punch counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Le misses with a kick to the body.
Le doesn't manage to clinch there - Punch circles away.
Le lands a leg kick that knocks Punch off balance momentarily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Le lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
A slapping leg kick lands for Le.
Punch staying out of range there.
Punch fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Le manages to avoid it.
Le works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Le misses with a low kick.
Le ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Kong Le is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Punch looks gassed!

Le pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Le misses with a low kick.
Le throws a leg kick but Punch moved away.
Kong Le seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Le works the jab nicely.
Le doesn't manage to clinch there - Punch circles away.
Le throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Punch shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Le sprawls well. Le wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Punch gets slowly back to his feet.
Le throws a head kick but Punch moves out of range.
Le tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Le feints a jab promting Punch to slip. Le then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Punch slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Le throws a head kick that misses.

Le throws a leg kick that misses.

Punch drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Le is being controlled here.
Punch wants to control but Le is keeping him busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Punch has knee on belly momentarily but Le bucks him off and regains half guard.
Le is looking to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Fast Punch has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Punch throws a big shot that misses.
Le looks for the body kick but Punch saw that one coming.
Le doesn't manage to clinch there - Punch circles away.
Punch blocks a head kick by Le.
Le misses with a double jab

and Punch counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Punch wants to control from the top but Le keeps moving.
Punch controls from within his opponent's guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kong Le dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Kong Le's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Le misses with a kick to the body.
Punch tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Le was well out of range. Poor timing from Punch.
Le looks to land a combination but Punch avoids it well.
Le wants to slow Punch down by chopping away at his legs.
Le misses with a low kick.
Punch avoids a punch combination nicely.
Some bone on bone action there as Punch checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
That kick from Le tenderised Punch's leg. Punch is trying to keep his angry face on.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Le scores with a jab to the body.
Le scores with a hook to the body. Punch takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Le is looking to wear down Punch with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Le throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Punch works the jab nicely.
Le tests Punch's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Nice sprawl there from Le as Punch shoots in.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Le.
Le throws a front kick aimed at Punch's knee but Punch avoids it well.
Le throws the kick towards the body but Punch avoids it.
Punch shoots in but Le avoids the takedown attempt easily.
A slapping leg kick lands for Le.
Punch is breathing heavily.
Le throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Le tries to close the distance and clinch but Punch swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Punch tries for a takedown but Le sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Kong Le has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fast Punch.

Punch takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Le tries to clinch there but Punch circles away.
Punch checks the leg kick.
Le tries to clinch up but Punch circles away and keeps his distance.
Le throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Punch takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Le misses with a hook to the body
and Punch counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Le is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Punch.
Le throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Punch attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Punch looks to land a combination but Le avoids it well.
A nice combination there by Le.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Le thows a left - swing and a miss!
Le tries to clinch but Punch moves away

and Punch counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Punch passes Le's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Le regains full guard. Nicely done.
Punch showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Punch wants to control from the top but Le keeps moving.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Punch scores with a hook to the body. Le takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Le tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Punch paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Le throws a right hand that Punch ducks under and follows up with a left that Punch also avoids with ease.
Punch throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Le sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Punch bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Le ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Punch lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Le tries a head kick but it misses.
Punch throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Punch throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Le just misses with a punch to the body.
Le throws a leg kick but Punch sees it coming and moves out of range.

Le tries to land a leg kick but Punch saw it coming and moves away.
Punch looks to land a combination but Le avoids it well.
Punch takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Le throws a leg kick but Punch checks it.
Punch stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Le.
Punch looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Le is fending him off so far but Punch persists. Nope, Le circles away and we're back to standing.
Le throws a low kick but it's checked well by Punch.
Kong Le is winning the standup battle so far.
Decent striking displayed by Le there.
Punch's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Le lands with a nice body punch.
Punch chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Le can pounce on him.
Le scoring well with a low kick there.
Le finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Le tries to close the distance and clinch but Punch swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Le throws a nice head kick!

Punch looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Punch engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Punch won't allow Le to sweep him here.

Le keeping moving, preventing Punch from controlling successfully.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Fast Punch wasn't active enough on the ground.
Le tries to clinch there but Punch circles away.
Punch throws a hook but Le avoids it easily.
Le slaps away a takedown attempt from Punch, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Le wants to land a leg kick but Punch is out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Punch closes the distance and clinches up with Le, looking for a takedown. Punch pushes Le against the cage but Le circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kong Le has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fast Punch.
Le scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Le misses with a head kick.
Punch misses with a jab to the body
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Le scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Le lands a head shot.
Punch misses with an uppercut. Le saw that one coming.
No luck for Punch with that takedown attempt.
Fast Punch has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Punch takes one on the chin but seems OK.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Le lands with a thumping leg kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Le looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kong Le showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Le, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
