PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Roy Peters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chew Backer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Roy Peters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Chew Backer!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Damien Edna and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Backer closes the distance and clinches up with Peters, looking for a takedown. Backer pushes Peters against the cage but Peters circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Peters shoots for a takedown but Backer saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Peters shoots in for a double leg but Backer sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

and Peters counters with a takedown into side control.
Backer is trying to control Peters's posture but Peters avoids it.
Peters staying calm.
Backer is looking for a sweep.
Peters in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Backer can't do much from the bottom here.

Backer takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Backer stops Peters from passing to mount.
Backer is trying to get back to half guard.
Peters moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Peters decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Peters tries for a takedown but Backer circles away easily

and Backer counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roy Peters. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Peters pushes Backer off and gets back to his feet.
Horrible takedown by Peters or perhaps it was just good defense by Backer which made him look bad.
Peters is breathing heavily.

Peters shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Backer is looking to control Peters's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Backer avoid being mounted?

Peters decides to stand and escape the position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Peters knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Backer on the ground.

Backer wants to pass the guard but Peters is keeping the position.

Peters kicks Backer off and gets to his feet.

Peters drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Peters stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Backer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Peters tries to stand but can't do so whilst Backer controls his leg.
Backer wants to control but Peters is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Peters wants to stand but Backer has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Peters tries to pass to full mount but Backer defends it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Backer tries for a takedown but Peters circles away easily

so Peters counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Peters controlling from the top position.
Peters won't allow Backer to sweep him here.

Backer shoots for a takedown but Peters saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Backer looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Peters!
Peters tries to hold on but Backer postures up.
Backer won't let Peters get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Roy Peters overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Backer can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Peters is looking to escape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Backer wants to take Peters's back but he can't do it this time.

Backer is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Peters is surviving well by controlling Backer's body position as best he can.
Peters is squirming around, avoiding Backer's attempts to control the action.
Backer lands a heavy elbow.
Backer lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Peters hang on?

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Backer wants to control the pace but Peters is squirming around nicely.
Backer with shots to the head and body - Peters looks very uncomfortable down there.
Backer looking to finish Peters with some ground and pound. This is bad for Peters!
Backer connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Peters on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Peters tries to get out of the position.
Peters holds on for dear life, controlling Backer's posture momentarily.
Peters can't escape the position.

Backer goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Peters is on top in guard.
Peters won't allow Backer to sweep him here.

Peters slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Backer looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Backer has a closed guard, preventing Peters from standing up.

Peters stands and steps away. Backer gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Peters is looking to slow Backer down with leg kicks.

Peters sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Backer is trying to escape the mount.
Backer is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Peters trying to control but Backer is having none of it.

That was a close second round but I would say that Roy Peters will probably get the nod.

Well Peters has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
