PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Fenili (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Theo AtlaSon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fenili comes to the cage accompanied by Welcome Home (Sanitarium). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gabriel Fenili!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Theo AtlaSon!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Nard Betker and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fenili blocks a leg kick.
Good leg kick by AtlaSon there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Fenili rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but AtlaSon moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Fenili closes the distance and pushes AtlaSon back into the cage.

Fenili is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. AtlaSon can't fight it off and eventually Fenili manages to take the fight to the floor. AtlaSon looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Fenili drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but AtlaSon manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Fenili has AtlaSon in his guard.
AtlaSon is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

AtlaSon stands and steps away. Fenili gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Fenili walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

AtlaSon fails in his attempt to clinch.
AtlaSon tries to clinch up but Fenili circles away and keeps his distance.
Fenili shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and AtlaSon counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Fenili thinking.
AtlaSon doesn't manage to clinch there - Fenili circles away.
Fenili misses with a few strikes there.
A solid leg kick lands there for AtlaSon.
Fenili bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
AtlaSon throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
AtlaSon lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
AtlaSon feints and then cracks Fenili's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Fenili down.
AtlaSon lands a leg kick that knocks Fenili off balance momentarily.

Fenili misses with a takedown attempt - AtlaSon sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Theo AtlaSon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
AtlaSon defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Fenili.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gabriel Fenili. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Fenili shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
AtlaSon wants to get back to full guard.

AtlaSon is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
AtlaSon is looking to escape.
AtlaSon tries to get to full guard but Fenili has control of the leg.
Fenili not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Fenili trying to advance position but AtlaSon counters by regaining guard.
AtlaSon preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Fenili drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and AtlaSon dives on top into guard.
AtlaSon must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Fenili is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and AtlaSon defends well.

Fenili is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. AtlaSon is aware though and is defending well.

Fenili has a closed guard, preventing AtlaSon from standing up.
AtlaSon not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
AtlaSon trying to stand up but can't free himself from Fenili's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Fenili is on top in guard.
Fenili trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Fenili drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Fenili jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Fenili counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Fenili is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! AtlaSon is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! AtlaSon has escaped and now he's on top!

Fenili is looking for a triangle but AtlaSon pushes his legs off easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fenili is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Fenili tries to lock up and control but AtlaSon gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Fenili is working to get back to half guard.
AtlaSon content just to control the position here.
Fenili is looking to improve his position but AtlaSon isn't that keen on the idea.
Fenili is squirming around, avoiding AtlaSon's attempts to control the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fenili is wriggling around trying to escape.
AtlaSon controlling from the full mount.
AtlaSon trying to control but Fenili is having none of it.

Let's hope that AtlaSon has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Theo AtlaSon.
Fenili misses with a combination
and AtlaSon counters with a thumping low kick.
AtlaSon lands with a thumping leg kick.
AtlaSon changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
AtlaSon throws a leg kick which misses Fenili's front leg but catches the back leg as Fenili tries to avoid it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Theo AtlaSon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Fenili swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and AtlaSon counters with a low kick, right behind Fenili 's knee.
Gabriel Fenili is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Fenili takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Fenili shoots in looking for a takedown but AtlaSon manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Fenili's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Fenili shoots in and drives through. AtlaSon sprawls well.

It looks like Gabriel Fenili has been cut.
AtlaSon with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Oh Fenili is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Fenili is looking for a takedown up against the cage. AtlaSon gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Fenili is trying to work for a single leg takedown but AtlaSon pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Fenili seems to have got his legs back now.

Theo AtlaSon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got AtlaSon winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
