Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Mcneilly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Matan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matan has chosen Lijepa naša (croatian national Anthem) as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, John Kavanagh and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mcneilly misses with a takedown attempt
letting Matan counter with a right hand.


It looks like James Mcneilly has been cut.
Ivan Matan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mcneilly misses with a low kick as Matan jumps back.

Matan cracks Mcneilly with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Mcneilly looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Matan finish him?

Mcneilly throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Matan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Mcneilly wants to stand but Matan has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mcneilly accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Mcneilly forces his way into half guard.
Matan wants to get back to his feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Mcneilly missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Mcneilly is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Matan sees it coming and defends easily.
Mcneilly looks to land a strike but Matan avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Mcneilly drops back, looking for a kneebar! Matan looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Matan looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Matan!
Mcneilly is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Matan decides to stand back up. Matan steps back and let's Mcneilly get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mcneilly throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Matan's waist but Matan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mcneilly off to one side.
Matan looks to land a left hand but Mcneilly moved out of range nicely.
Mcneilly's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Mcneilly duly obliges.

Mcneilly dives in and grabs Matan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Matan pushes down on Mcneilly's head and hops out.

You get the feeling that Matan really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Mcneilly has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mcneilly works his way into side control.
Matan wants to get back to his feet but Mcneilly drags him back down.

Mcneilly is working to tighten is grip on Matan's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Matan has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Mcneilly is really squeezing tight and eventually Matan passes out! Mcneilly breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
