Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Boyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Bird (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bobby Boyer has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bobby Boyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Bird!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Bruno Lombardi and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab by Boyer.
Bird takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Boyer is looking to clinch but Bird is avoiding it.
Bird throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Boyer counters with an outside leg kick.
A left lands for Boyer.
Boyer ducks under a wild hook from Bird.
Boyer connects with a good right hand that stumbles Bird. Bird circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Horrible takedown by Boyer or perhaps it was just good defense by Bird which made him look bad.
Bird fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Boyer wants to clinch up but Bird keeps it at a distance.

Boyer rushes Bird and presses him up against the cage.
Bird taking a breather.
Boyer throws a punch but it's blocked by Bird.
Bird is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Boyer gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Bird is looking to break free of the clinch but Boyer has double underhooks.

Bird wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Boyer has him pressed against the cage.

Bird tightens his grip and picks Boyer up, before dumping him to the ground. Boyer manages to land in guard.
Bird postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boyer wants to control but Bird passes easily into half guard.
Bird is looking to advance position but Boyer won't allow it.

Bird is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Boyer has managed to free his arm - good work.
Boyer wants to improve his position but Bird is controlling well.

Boyer is working hard here to advance position.
Bird not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Bird throwing shots but Boyer is blocking nicely.
Bird is thwarting Boyer's attempts to control the position.

Boyer is looking to get back to full guard here but Bird has managed to pass to side control instead.
Boyer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bird on the ground.

Bird is trying to get an arm triangle but Boyer is defending well.
Bird advances to mount.
Bird is landing with some decent strikes but Boyer is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Bird landing strikes, looking to finish!
Bird trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Boyer avoids a series of strikes thrown by Bird.
Boyer blocking the ground and pound.
Bird pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Boyer is looking to get to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Bird dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A combination from Bird does no damage.
Bird stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Boyer.
Bird throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
letting Boyer counter with a right hand.

Boyer darts in and clinches Bird up against the cage.
Bird is struggling to control the position.
Bird is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Bird has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Boyer avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Bird tries to score a body lock takedown but Boyer shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Bird scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Bird fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Bird has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Bird throws a strike aimed at the side of Boyer's head but Boyer avoids it well.

You can see the frustration on Boyer's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Boyer takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Boyer wants to control but Bird is keeping busy.
Bird throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Bird looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Jay Bird showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Boyer's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Bird is trying to break the clinch but Boyer has him pressed against the cage.

Bird is trying to drag Boyer to the mat but Boyer just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Bird throws a head kick that misses
and Boyer counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Bird chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Boyer can pounce on him.

Bird wants to clinch but Boyer slips to the side

and Boyer counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Boyer perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Boyer can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Bird is looking to escape.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bird tries to lock up and control but Boyer gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Bird regains half guard.
Bird is looking to improve his position.
Bobby Boyer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jay Bird is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boyer is thwarting Bird's attempts to control the position.
