PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jenson Vatelli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fernando Torres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yuuki Gou and Kenichi Hosakawa.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vatelli throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Torres's waist but Torres gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Vatelli off to one side.
Torres misses with a shot to the body
and Vatelli finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Vatelli shoots in but no luck this time.
Vatelli shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Torres defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jenson Vatelli. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Torres checks a leg kick.
Torres misses with a right hand
and Vatelli makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Torres throws a hook to the side of Vatelli's head but Vatelli sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Vatelli fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Torres avoids it really well and circles away.
Torres misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Vatelli.
Torres throws a lazy uppercut
and Vatelli counters with a head kick. That will keep Torres thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Torres throws an overhand right that lands on Vatelli's shoulder, as Vatelli tries to avoid the shot.
Torres stuffs the takedown attempt from Vatelli. Vatelli gets slowly back to his feet.
Torres throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

and Torres takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Vatelli tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Torres paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Fernando Torres seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Vatelli counters with a right hand to the body.

Torres lands a jab.

It looks like Jenson Vatelli has been cut.
Vatelli wants to clinch.
Torres throws a right hand that misses
and Vatelli counters with a three punch combo that has Torres backing up. Torres nods at Vatelli to acknowledge the strikes.
Torres lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Vatelli circles away quickly and effectively.
Torres misses with a double jab.
Torres scores with a jab to the jaw.
Vatelli is breathing heavily.
Torres misses with a left hand
and Vatelli counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Torres misses with an uppercut
and Vatelli counters with a left and a right that stings Torres.
Torres fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Vatelli looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Torres lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Torres misses the jab.
A punch combination from Torres misses.
Torres misses with a hook. Vatelli ducked under it nicely.
Torres thows a left - swing and a miss!
Torres throws a shot to the body.
Torres swings for the body but Vatelli moves out of range.
Torres throws a hook but Vatelli blocks it.

Torres missing with a left hand there. Vatelli was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Torres is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Torres rushes Vatelli with punches - Vatelli moves straight backwards instead of circling and gets clipped by the second strike... and the third... and the fourth! Oh, Vatelli goes down! Torres follows up with more strikes and the ref steps in to end the bout!
