PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bhang Bhang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tomas Araya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bhang comes into the arena with SMC - RAFFII SUOMI FLÄTTII blaring out of the sound system. Araya is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Slayer - Angel of Death. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bhang throws a poor cross that misses
and Araya counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Bhang tries to land a body kick
and Araya counters with a nice body kick.
Araya throws a leg kick

and Bhang counters with a single leg into guard. Araya didn't expect that.
Bhang slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Bhang content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Bhang tries to advance to mount but Araya denies him.
Bhang remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bhang is looking to take a break and control but Araya is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Bhang Bhang.

That was a close round but I would say that Bhang Bhang will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Araya connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Bhang's hands.
Bhang buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Bhang throws a lazy right hand but Araya sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Bhang misses with a takedown attempt
and Araya counters with a good low kick that Bhang was not able to check.

and Bhang counters with a three punch combo that has Araya backing up. Araya nods at Bhang to acknowledge the strikes.

Araya fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Bhang has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
A slapping leg kick lands for Araya.
Bhang feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Araya's calf.
Araya wants to land a leg kick but Bhang is out of range.

Bhang throws a combination that misses
and Araya counters with a thumping low kick.
Bhang tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Araya manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Bhang counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Bhang not doing much here.
Bhang seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Araya for as long as he can get away with.

Bhang looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Bhang Bhang has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Araya throws a body punch but Bhang moves out of range.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bhang throws a leg kick
and Araya makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Bhang misses with a right hand
and Araya counters with a leg kick.
Bhang keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Araya ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

A close second round but Tomas Araya will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Araya's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Bhang connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Araya scrambles back to his feet.

Bhang tries to land a leg kick but Araya saw it coming and moves away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bhang shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Araya as he avoids it easily.

Araya bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Araya throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Bhang shoots in for a takedown but Araya shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Bhang looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Tomas Araya seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

and Bhang counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Araya is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Bhang controls from within his opponent's guard.

Araya shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Araya turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bhang misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Bhang counters with a nice double leg into side control. Araya won't be happy with that.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bhang looks up at the clock and then as Araya takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Bhang smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
A lull in the action here as Bhang stalls from top position.
Araya avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Bhang.
Araya parries the strikes from Bhang easily there. Bhang is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Araya to escape.

Bhang tries to score with some ground and pound. Araya controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Araya is being controlled here.
Bhang wants to control but Araya is keeping him busy.
Bhang remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
