The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Novak doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Willemoes counters with a shoot takedown. Novak fights it but they end up in guard.
Willemoes makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Willemoes is working Novak over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Novak can do anything to dispel that myth.

Novak can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Willemoes controls the pace.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Willemoes is pushing down on Novak's leg trying to pass to half guard. Novak is fighting to maintain full guard but Willemoes has managed to sneak the leg through.

Willemoes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Willemoes postures up and throws a massive shot that knocks Novak out cold! Two more strikes to his unconscious opponent for good luck and this one is all over! Willemoes goes absolutely crazy with his corner! Wow, you can see how much that win means to him!
