PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pate Perhana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mirko Filipovi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Filipovi is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Engel- Rammstein. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pate Perhana!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mirko Filipovi!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Johanna Lukiainen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perhana circles away from the clinch attempt

and Perhana counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Perhana.
Perhana looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Filipovi is trying to keep Perhana in close.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mirko Filipovi hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Filipovi clinches.
Perhana can't get the takedown.
Filipovi throws a knee to the head but misses.
Filipovi wants to get back to striking at distance but Perhana won't allow it.

Perhana breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Perhana tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Filipovi swivels and escapes.
Filipovi throws an overhand right that lands on Perhana's shoulder, as Perhana tries to avoid the shot.

and Perhana counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
A punch combination from Filipovi misses.
Filipovi throws a right hand that Perhana ducks under and follows up with a left that Perhana also avoids with ease.
Perhana misses with a takedown attempt
and Filipovi counters with an outside leg kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pate Perhana. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Perhana shoots in for a double leg but Filipovi sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Filipovi is looking to score with low kicks.

and Perhana counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Filipovi's guard now.
Perhana stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Filipovi swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Perhana is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Perhana drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Filipovi is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Filipovi displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Perhana throws out the jab.
Perhana dives in and grabs Filipovi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Filipovi pushes down on Perhana's head and hops out.

and Filipovi moves into the clinch.

and Perhana counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Perhana counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Perhana blocks a head kick by Filipovi.
Filipovi tries a head kick but it misses.
Perhana shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Filipovi sprawls well. Filipovi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Perhana gets slowly back to his feet.

enabling Filipovi to counter with a crisp jab.

Filipovi gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Filipovi lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Perhana on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Filipovi is pressed up against the cage. Perhana has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Filipovi down to the mat. Filipovi avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Filipovi throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Perhana is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Perhana perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Perhana's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Pate Perhana.
Filipovi moves to clinch but Perhana breaks away

and Perhana counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Filipovi's guard now.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Perhana's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Perhana shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Filipovi sprawls well. Filipovi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Perhana gets slowly back to his feet.

so Perhana counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pate Perhana dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

and Perhana counters with a single leg into guard. Filipovi didn't expect that.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Perhana feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Perhana counters with a shoot takedown. Filipovi fights it but they end up in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Perhana prevents Filipovi from getting back to his feet.
Perhana works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Perhana slows the pace down in half guard.

Mirko Filipovi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Pate Perhana has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Perhana tries for a takedown but Filipovi sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Filipovi lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
No luck for Perhana with that takedown attempt.
Pate Perhana is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Filipovi counters with a left to the body.
Perhana takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Perhana takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Filipovi closes the distance and clinches.
Filipovi using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Perhana has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Perhana blocks the elbow strike.
Filipovi tries to land knees in the clinch but Perhana avoids the damage to the body.
Filipovi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Perhana has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Filipovi is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Filipovi tries a knee to the head but Perhana blocks it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Pate Perhana showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Perhana, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
