PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between George Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Logan Sky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Martin comes to the cage accompanied by Song of Ice and Fire Art Collection. Logan Sky told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, George Martin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Logan Sky!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sky misses with a left hand
and Martin counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Sky misses with a hook
and Martin counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Martin closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sky to the mat! Sky manages to get full guard.
Sky wants to sweep here but Martin controlling him for the moment.

Sky can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Martin controls the pace.

Martin is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sky.

and Sky cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Martin shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sky manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Sky has Martin pulled in close to control his posture.
Martin is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Martin with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Martin wants to pass the guard but Sky is keeping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sky looking to hit a scissor sweep but Martin is one step ahead there.

Martin passes into half guard.
Sky tries to get to full guard but Martin has control of the leg.

Sky has control of Martin's left arm, preventing Martin from doing any damage.

Martin wants to get up but he can't break Sky's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Sky lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Martin!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Martin can't escape the position.
Martin has given up his back here. Will Sky look for the submission or keep pounding away?

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sky throws a lazy uppercut

and Martin counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Martin.

Martin bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Martin working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Martin has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

George Martin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sky tries to hold on but Martin pushes him away.

Martin swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Sky is now in Martin's guard. A big mistake from Martin there, giving up the dominant position!
Martin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sky drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Martin dives on top into guard.
Sky manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Martin manages to get himself to full guard.

Sky stands and throws Martin's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Sky is staying tight to Martin's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Martin gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Sky controlling the position easily from mount.

Sky is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Martin is surviving well by controlling Sky's body position as best he can.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sky moves to back control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Sky is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Martin is having to fend off submission attempts from Sky, who is looking to sink in the choke. Sky doesn't have the hooks in though and Martin manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

George Martin showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Martin, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
