The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pavella closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Pavella is working Baby over with some ground and pound from side control.
Baby is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Pavella's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Baby works his way to full guard. Good work.
Pavella connects with a couple of short punches.
Pavella won't allow Baby to sweep him here.

Pavella postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Baby is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Pavella, into his guard.

Pavella regains half guard there - taking advantage of Baby's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Baby working over Pavella with some ground and pound. Pavella looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Baby wants to take a breather but Pavella is having none of it.
Pavella on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Pavella tries to get out of the position.

Pavella is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Baby looking to sit in guard and control but Pavella gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Pavella throws a strike but Baby rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
