PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Raul Ewing (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Gap (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ewing comes to the cage accompanied by B.o.B. - Created A Monster. Ewing has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Patrick Gap will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Raul Ewing!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Patrick Gap!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Eddie Farnsworth and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gap shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Well, if Gap is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Gap working the head and body with strikes.
Ewing is breathing heavily.
Gap passes to side control.

Gap stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Gap fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ewing, pushing him back against the cage.

Gap manages to break the clinch.
Gap lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Ewing backs up against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gap goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like Raul Ewing has been cut.

Gap looking to score a takedown here. Ewing is defending well but Gap drives through and ends up in Ewing's guard.
Gap engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Gap throwing strikes but missing.
Gap trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gap chips away with some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gap lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Gap scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Gap controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Ewing might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Gap postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Gap lands a couple of elbows.

Gap stands and steps away. Ewing gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Raul Ewing seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ewing gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gap to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gap working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gap tries to free his leg and advance position but Ewing is retaining full guard.
Gap controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Gap stands up from Ewing's guard - Gap perhaps looking for a knockout.

Gap feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Gap is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Gap stands up from Ewing's guard - Gap perhaps looking for a knockout.

Gap looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Ewing!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Ewing is bucking up trying to escape but Gap cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Ewing gets caught flat footed, as Gap shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Gap stays in close to Ewing's body and controls the position.
Gap has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Gap makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Gap sitting in guard, not really doing much.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Patrick Gap hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Gap looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Gap slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Patrick Gap has got the better of the ground game so far.

Gap works over Ewing with some ground and pound from guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gap looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Patrick Gap was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Gap closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Ewing's guard.

Gap lands a couple of elbows.
Gap slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Let's hope that Gap has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Gap tries to free his leg and advance position but Ewing is retaining full guard.

Gap passes Ewing's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Gap working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Gap not doing much here.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Patrick Gap was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Gap shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ewing napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Gap is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Gap is trying to get an arm triangle but Ewing is defending well.
Gap has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
You can see the frustration on Ewing's face as Gap controls the position.

Gap's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Gap scores with punches from side control.
Gap is putting a hurting on Ewing here, landing some big shots from side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ewing takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ewing is letting Gap control him for a moment.
Gap cracks Ewing with a big right hand but Ewing just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick Gap showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Gap throws a sloppy head kick and Ewing moves out of range easily.

Gap is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ewing's half guard.
Gap seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Gap is working for a kimura but Ewing is defending it quite comfortably.

Gap looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Gap lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Gap content to control rather than advance.
Ewing is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Gap scores with a couple of nice shots.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gap in particular looking to stall.

Gap lands strikes from half guard.
Gap takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Gap is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Ewing sees it coming and defends easily.
Gap landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gap in particular looking to stall.
Gap takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gap decides to return to a standing position.

Gap throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ewing was covering up waiting for the punch and Gap finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Raul Ewing has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Patrick Gap has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Gap fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ewing sprawls well initially but Gap persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Patrick Gap is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Gap moves into full mount! Ewing won't be happy about that!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gap tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Patrick Gap comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gap has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
