PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dobryi Dag (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesco White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying White's choice of entrance music: Smoke the Fire. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dobryi Dag!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jesco White!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Viktor Lagutenko and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

White gets in close and instigates a clinch.
White gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Dag.

White jumps guard.
Dag trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
White is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Dag wants to control from the top but White keeps moving.

White is looking for a triangle but Dag pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dag trying to control but White is working from the bottom.
Dag tries to free his leg and advance position but White is retaining full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
White is trying to control the position but Dag postures up.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Dag closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming White to the mat! White manages to get full guard.

White keeping moving, preventing Dag from controlling successfully.

Dag stands and throws White's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Dag wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by White, who protects the arm well.

Dag is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, White has escaped the position, nice work there.

Dag trying to control the action but White is working from the bottom.

Dag goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, White has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Dag but great work by White.

Dag is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Dag keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
White is pressing down on Dag's thigh, looking to free his foot. Dag is holding on for now.
Dag tries to get to full guard but White has control of the leg.
White seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

White blocks the strikes from Dag.
Dag wants to get back to full guard but White has mounted him!
Dag sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Dag wants to get back to full guard.
White passes to full mount!

White looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
White prevents Dag from getting the reversal.
White wants to control the pace but Dag is squirming around nicely.
Dag is trying to stand.
Dag keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dag wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

White with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Dag swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

White goes for an armbar but Dag turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Dag.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dobryi Dag will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Dag dodges the punch combination from White.
White has his takedown stuffed

and Dag counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Dag.
Dag wants to control from the top but White keeps moving.

White has his foot on Dag's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dag works his way back into a safe position though.
White will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

White working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dag doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dag manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dag slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

White wants to control but Dag is keeping busy and won't allow it.
White is refusing to be controlled, as Dag sits in half guard.
Dag passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for White!

Dag throws some wild stikes that White manages to avoid easily.

Dag throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! White has his hands clasped together but Dag breaks the hold and White is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Dag!
