PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dan Serr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Groomph Baenre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dan Serr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Groomph Baenre!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Albert Achterberg and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Serr shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Baenre napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Baenre struggling a bit here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Baenre is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Serr's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Serr wants to pass the guard but Baenre is defending well.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Serr is looking to stall here but Baenre recovers full guard.
Serr has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Baenre looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Serr puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Baenre keeps control of the position for the meantime.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Serr won't allow Baenre to get back to his feet.
Baenre manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Serr manages to get himself to full guard.
Baenre wants to pass the guard but Serr is keeping the position.

Baenre drops back looking for a leg! Serr is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Serr manages to kick Baenre off! Baenre jumps back into Serr's guard.
Baenre pushes down on Serr's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Serr wants to get back to full guard.

Baenre lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Well, if Baenre is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Baenre passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Serr!

Serr is breathing heavily.
Baenre unloads with some shots from mount but Serr bucks and avoids them well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Baenre is working for a guillotine from mount but Serr frees his head quite easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!


A combination from Baenre does no damage.
Baenre shoots in looking for a takedown. Serr tries to sprawl out of it but Baenre keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Serr manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Serr has closed the distance and engaged Baenre in a clinch.

Serr tries to pull guard but Baenre won't allow it.
Baenre is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Serr jumps guard but Baenre stands there with Serr around his waist. Serr gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Baenre putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Serr in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Baenre breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dan Serr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Baenre lands with a nice body kick.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Baenre rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Serr moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Serr crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Baenre - the referee stops the clock and Serr gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Baenre. Serr manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Baenre obliges.

Serr is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dan Serr. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Oh Serr is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Baenre has Serr pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Serr is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from Baenre - that's hurt Serr badly! Oh, another knee lands and Serr is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Serr doesn't seem to be complaining.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Groomph Baenre!
