Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matias Alderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamie Rooney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Alderson might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Dark moon High tide. Rooney has chosen Prodigy - Spitfire as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Jamie Rooney has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rooney misses with a takedown

so Alderson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Alderson stops Rooney from standing up.

Alderson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rooney manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Alderson has Rooney in his guard.

Rooney drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Alderson dives on top into guard.
Alderson wants to control from the top but Rooney keeps moving.

Rooney has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Alderson is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Rooney.

Alderson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rooney is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alderson has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

and Alderson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Rooney's guard now.

Alderson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rooney is just riding it out for now. Alderson eventually gives up the hold.

Alderson jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Rooney is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Rooney and Alderson has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Alderson in particular looking to stall.
Jamie Rooney has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
