The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Connor closes the distance but King moves to the side
and King connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
King is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Connor.
Connor scores with a jab.
Nice defenses there by Connor.
Connor wants to clinch but King slips to the side
and King connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Connor enables King to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Connor manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as King accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Connor really doesn't want to stay on the ground with King. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

King has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
King seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Connor for as long as he can get away with.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

and Connor counters with a nice low kick that buckles King's knee momentarily.

and King makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

King throws a hook to the side of Connor's head but Connor sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

enabling King to counter with a crisp jab.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

King shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Connor napping and manages to drive through into side control!
