PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Itor Lamope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Howland Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lamope comes to the cage accompanied by White Knuckles. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Itor Lamope!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Howland Reed!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Seu Braga and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lamope tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Reed is able to avoid easily.
Lamope throws a right and a left that both miss.
Reed gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Lamope throws a half hearted mid kick.
Lamope fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Lamope with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Reed to score with a decent uppercut.

Lamope changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Lamope misses with a looping left.
Reed misses the jab.

Reed lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Reed tries to clinch there but Lamope circles away.
Reed steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Lamope.
Reed throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Lamope lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Reed scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Reed tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Lamope manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Reed lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Reed throws a punch but it's blocked by Lamope.
Reed scores with a nice hook to the head.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Reed creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Reed keeps control of Lamope as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Reed doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Lamope wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Reed tries to throw a body punch but Lamope avoids it by throwing Reed back against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Reed creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Lamope blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Lamope misses with a punch to the body.
Lamope blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Reed misses with some punches.
Reed prevents Lamope from breaking the clinch.

Reed gets through Lamope's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Reed lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Lamope wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Reed has him pressed against the cage.

Lamope jumps into guard, dragging Reed to the mat.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Reed accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Lamope will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Lamope has his foot on Reed's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Reed works his way back into a safe position though.

Lamope throws his legs up looking for a submission but Reed uses it to pass to side control.

You can see the frustration on Lamope's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Reed working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Reed throws an elbow but Lamope slips to the side and avoids it well.
Lamope is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Itor Lamope will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Lamope will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Reed up against the cage.

Reed swings wildly with an uppercut but Lamope uses good head movement to avoid it.

Lamope wants to break the clinch but can't.
Reed misses with some punches.

Good anti-grappling being displayed by Reed as Lamope tries to tie him up.

Reed lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Reed throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Lamope jumps into guard, dragging Reed to the mat.
Reed trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Lamope working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Reed doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Reed manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Lamope controls Reed momentarily but Reed frees himself.

Lamope is looking for a triangle but Reed pushes his legs off easily.

Reed avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Reed postures up and lands a big shot to Lamope's brow.
Reed missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Reed got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lamope has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Reed has managed to get both his arms back between Lamope's legs - danger averted.
Reed passes into half guard.

Reed looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Lamope tries to roll over but Reed keeps him under control.

Howland Reed showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Howland Reed comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Reed has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
