PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Pistol Robinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paul Thomas told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 17 - 1, fighting out of London, Pistol Robinson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 22 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Thomas!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Daniel Bishop and Sam Margolis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Robinson misses with a takedown attempt
and Thomas counters with a right hand to the body.
Thomas tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Robinson was well out of range. Poor timing from Thomas.
Thomas throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Thomas throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Robinson misses with a takedown attempt
and Robinson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Robinson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Robinson won't allow Thomas to sweep him here.
Robinson tries to stand but Thomas is controlling from the bottom.
Thomas tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Robinson trying to control the position from guard on top but Thomas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Robinson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Thomas works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Robinson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Thomas keeps working.

Thomas tries to roll over but Robinson keeps him under control.
Robinson wants to get back to his feet.
Robinson is breathing heavily.
Thomas is trying to get back to full guard.
Thomas is staying active underneath Robinson, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Thomas moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Robinson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Thomas wants to sweep but no luck.
Robinson wants to stand and escape but instead Thomas has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Thomas is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Thomas throws a lazy uppercut

and Robinson counters with a takedown into side control.
Robinson tries to stand but Thomas controls the position and pulls Robinson into his guard.
Thomas wants to sweep but no luck.

Thomas uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Thomas lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Robinson with a poor takedown
and Thomas makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pistol Robinson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Robinson is looking to clinch.
Thomas bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Robinson's head.
Thomas comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Thomas throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Robinson on the side of the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Thomas thuds his right hand into Robinson's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
A left and a right from Thomas both land. Nice combination.
Thomas looks to land a combination. Robinson sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Robinson is rocked!
Robinson gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Thomas gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!
