PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alderson Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Calve Pindakaas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Calve Pindakaas told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Matheus Silva and Luis Engracia.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva shoots in looking for a takedown. Pindakaas tries to sprawl out of it but Silva keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pindakaas manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Pindakaas throws a one two combo.

It looks like Alderson Silva has been cut.

Silva gets a takedown into half guard.

Silva is looking for a kimura but Pindakaas is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Silva to get the leverage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silva is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Pindakaas is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Pindakaas has escaped and now he's on top!
Pindakaas postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Pindakaas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Silva keeps working.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Pindakaas thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Pindakaas tries to free his leg and advance position but Silva is retaining full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Pindakaas throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Pindakaas looks to land a combination but Silva avoids it well.
Pindakaas throws a series of punches but Silva moves out of range.
Silva closes the distance and clinches up with Pindakaas, looking for a takedown. Silva pushes Pindakaas against the cage but Pindakaas circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Silva drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Silva drops back, looking for a kneebar! Pindakaas looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Pindakaas looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Pindakaas!
Silva is looking to reverse the position.

Pindakaas wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Silva, who protects the arm well.
Silva manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
