Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between King Leonidas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doug Copley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, King Leonidas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Doug Copley!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, John Kavanagh and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leonidas connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Leonidas tries for a takedown but Copley circles away easily

and Copley counters by moving into the clinch.

Leonidas wants the takedown. Copley is fighting it off but Leonidas persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Copley's guard against the cage.

Copley isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Leonidas stacks Copley on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Leonidas!

Leonidas wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Copley, who protects the arm well.
Leonidas gets to mount! Copley was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Copley is desperately trying to improve his position but Leonidas has a good base and remains in mount.
Leonidas trying to control but Copley is having none of it.

Leonidas jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Copley manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Leonidas advances to mount.

Leonidas looking to secure an arm triangle but Copley defends it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Leonidas is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Copley has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Copley!
Copley wants to pass the guard but Leonidas is keeping the position.

Copley drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Leonidas manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Copley has Leonidas in his guard.
Copley looking for a sweep. Not yet Copley, not yet.
Leonidas forces his way into half guard.
Copley is looking to escape.
Copley blocking the ground and pound attempt from Leonidas.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Leonidas passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Copley!
Copley squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Copley is in all sorts of trouble here.

Leonidas with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Leonidas has control of Copley's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Copley regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Leonidas goes for an armbar but Copley turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Copley.

Copley is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Leonidas is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Leonidas has escaped and now he's on top!

Leonidas slips nicely into half guard.
Leonidas wants to take a breather but Copley is having none of it.
Leonidas wants to pass the guard but Copley is defending well.
Leonidas thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Copley's head.
Leonidas frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Copley really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Leonidas cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

King Leonidas dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Copley tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Leonidas counters with a nice double leg into side control. Copley won't be happy with that.
Copley looking for a sweep but Leonidas has passed into full mount! Oh no!
BOOM! Leonidas connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Copley is looking to improve his position but Leonidas isn't that keen on the idea.

Leonidas goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Copley turns into him and now he's in Leonidas's guard.

Leonidas looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Leonidas looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Leonidas had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Copley defends it easily.
Leonidas tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Leonidas is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Copley makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Copley.
Leonidas stands and throws Copley's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Copley tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Leonidas wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Copley sneaks back into half guard.
Leonidas tries to pass the half guard into mount. Copley knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Leonidas prevents Copley from improving his position.
Copley is breathing heavily.
Leonidas works his way into full mount!
Copley keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Leonidas looking for a guillotine from mount but Copley is having none of it.

Copley defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Leonidas.

Leonidas lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Copley throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Copley is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Leonidas is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Copley to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Copley shrugs it off.

Leonidas postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Copley looks a forlorn figure.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Leonidas is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Copley has managed to escape the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

King Leonidas dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Leonidas shoots in looking for a takedown but Copley manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Leonidas's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Leonidas is looking to chop away at Copley's legs.
King Leonidas is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Copley gets caught napping as Leonidas dives in and scores a takedown. Copley manages to retain guard.
Copley looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Leonidas got a little sloppy there for a moment and Copley has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Leonidas has managed to get both his arms back between Copley's legs - danger averted.

Leonidas moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Copley has worked his arm free - good work by Copley!

Leonidas thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Leonidas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Copley keeps working.

Leonidas tries to move to mount but Copley blocks the move with his legs.
Leonidas is trying to move to mount but Copley reverses beautifully and ends up in Leonidas's guard.
Leonidas keeping moving, preventing Copley from controlling successfully.
Copley wants to get up but he can't break Leonidas's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Leonidas wriggles free and stands up.
Leonidas fails with a takedown attempt.
Leonidas rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

so Copley counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Copley stopping the sweep attempt from Leonidas.
Copley trying to control the position from guard on top but Leonidas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

And that's the end of the fight!
King Leonidas showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Leonidas, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
