PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ashe Corven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Monkey Luffy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Corven might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Escape. Ashe Corven has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ashe Corven!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Monkey Luffy!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Anni Minnemäki and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Corven closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Luffy quickly recovers to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Luffy gets back to full guard.
Luffy wants to sweep here but Corven controlling him for the moment.
Corven would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Luffy had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Corven defends it easily.
Corven working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Corven drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Luffy manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Corven has Luffy in his guard.
Luffy is looking to work some ground and pound but Corven has wrist control.

Luffy throws a strike but Corven rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Corven slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Corven slips nicely into half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The fighters are battling for position here. Luffy manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Luffy can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Corven controls the pace.
Corven sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Luffy's guard.

Corven passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Luffy!
Luffy is squirming around, avoiding Corven's attempts to control the action.

Corven swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Luffy is now in Corven's guard. A big mistake from Corven there, giving up the dominant position!

Corven wants to control from the top but Luffy keeps moving.

Luffy is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Corven ducks under a wild hook from Luffy.
Luffy throws out a loose jab but Corven uses good head movement to avoid it.
Luffy throws a series of punches but Corven moves out of range.

Corven has gone for a leg lock! Luffy slips out almost immediately though and dives into Corven's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Luffy gets to his feet - Corven follows without any prompting.
Corven dodges the punch combination from Luffy.
Luffy throws a right hand that misses

and Corven counters with a nice double leg into side control. Luffy won't be happy with that.

Corven is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Luffy has escaped the position, nice work there.
Luffy manages to work his way to half guard, despite Corven's best efforts.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Corven is thwarting Luffy's attempts to control the position.
Corven prevents Luffy from improving his position.

Corven is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Luffy is not content to let Corven control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Luffy keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Corven seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Luffy has recovered full guard.

Luffy is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Monkey Luffy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Luffy misses with a straight left.
Luffy lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Corven circles away quickly and effectively.
Luffy fails with the takedown
and Corven counters with a stiff right hand.

Luffy closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Corven to the mat! Corven manages to get full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Luffy lying in Corven's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. Corven decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Luffy taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ashe Corven!
