PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ana Ali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mufasa King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ali comes to the ring accompanied by Apinamies. King has chosen Circle of Life as his entrance music. Mufasa King is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ana Ali!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mufasa King!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King connects with the punch.
Ali has his takedown stuffed
and King counters with a left to the body.
Ali chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before King can pounce on him.
Ali digs a good hook to King's body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters circling - King throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Ali misses with a takedown attempt
and King counters with an inside leg kick.
King misses the jab.
King looks to land a right hand but Ali moved out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
King swings and misses with a hook to the body.
King misses the jab.
King throws a sloppy head kick and Ali moves out of range easily.
Ali swings and misses with a shot to the body
letting King counter with a right hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ali throws a predictable looking body shot
and King counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
King throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
King connects with a single shot there.
King lands with a nice body punch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
King connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Ali momentarily.
King tries to clinch but Ali moves out of range.
King moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
King connects with a body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mufasa King dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


Ali tries for a takedown but King circles away easily
and King counters with a good low kick that Ali was not able to check.
King misses with a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King tries to close the distance and clinch but Ali swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ali fails with the takedown
and King counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Ali moves out of range of the leg kick from King.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
King fails with an attempt to clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
King tries to clinch up but Ali circles away and keeps his distance.
King throws a poor cross that misses

so Ali counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ali working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Ali wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
King pulls Ali in close to prevent any damage.
King is looking to stand up but Ali isn't so interested in that idea.
Ali loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
King really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ali. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ali postures up in King's guard and throws a big left but King blocks it.
King preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Ali trying to control the position from guard on top but King is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ali pushing down on King's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
King trying to control from the bottom.
Ali throwing shots but King is blocking nicely.
King tries to get to full guard but Ali has control of the leg.
Ali thows a huge punch but King dodges it nicely.
King is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ali has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
King is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ali is just content to waste time from the top position. King takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Ali with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Ali wants to pass the guard but King is keeping the position.
Ali throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Ali trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
King is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ali is controlling him.
Ali is looking to work some ground and pound but King has wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ana Ali dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


King misses with a shot to the body

so Ali counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ali won't allow King to get back to his feet.
Ali stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. King swivels though and keeps the full guard.
King avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Ali postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ali trying to control but King is working from the bottom.
Ali tries to free his leg and advance position but King is retaining full guard.
Ali forces his way into half guard.
King is staying active underneath Ali, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ali is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Ali is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so King is just riding it out for now. Ali eventually gives up the hold.
King wants to get back to full guard.
Ali is trying to control the action in half guard but King is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

King is defending against the submission attempts here by Ali.
Ali thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed King's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ali not landing any meaningful shots this time.
King is trying to stand back up but Ali is controlling him
King manages to get to full guard.

Ali drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ali jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
King wants to get back to his feet but Ali is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Ali postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! King is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ali, into his guard.
King has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ali is proving hard to escape from.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

King got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ali has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, King has managed to get both his arms back between Ali's legs - danger averted.
King trying to stand up but can't free himself from Ali's guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

King gets to his feet. Ali looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Ali shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

and King counters with a nice leg kick.
King misses with a wild body shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ana Ali showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Ali has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
