The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith darts in trying to clinch

and Verson moves into the clinch.

Verson turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Verson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Smith is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Smith pushes Verson off looking to stand but Verson dives back in and keeps control.

Verson wants to work for an arm triangle but Smith is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Verson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Smith is just riding it out for now. Verson eventually gives up the hold.
