Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maya Richer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maya Richer is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Maya Richer!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Richer has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Richer swats away the attempt to clinch by Johnson.
Johnson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Richer counters with a left and a right that stings Johnson.
Richer tries a head kick but it misses.
Johnson shoots in but Richer avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Johnson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Johnson is pressing down on Richer's thigh, looking to free his foot. Richer is holding on for now.
Richer is trying to control but can't.
Richer is pressing down on Johnson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Richer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Richer manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Richer jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Johnson manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Richer shoots for a takedown but Johnson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Johnson moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Richer has taken the fight to the clinch.

Richer breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Maya Richer hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Richer bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Johnson tries to escape but Richer is in control.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Richer rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Johnson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Johnson fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Richer looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Richer has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Johnson lands a jab-cross combination.

Richer closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Richer lands in his opponent's guard.
Richer slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Richer throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Johnson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Richer feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Maya Richer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Richer has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
