PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Alberto Diagana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brett James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diagana kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Judas Priest - Painkiller. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Chris Edwards and Steven Brown.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
James misses with a wild combination.
James misses with a jab, cross combination.
James throws a leg kick but Diagana sees it coming and moves out of range.
Diagana shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as James sprawls well. James wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Diagana gets slowly back to his feet.
Diagana fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

James moves into the clinch.
James wants to break free but Diagana has control.
James avoiding damage as Diagana throws knees to the body.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Diagana makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Diagana misses with a body punch.
Diagana tries to throw a body punch but James avoids it by throwing Diagana back against the cage.
James is looking to break free of the clinch but Diagana has double underhooks.

Diagana stalling in the clinch but James improves position.

James pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
James circles away from the clinch attempt.
James displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Diagana.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alberto Diagana. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Diagana rushes James and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
James is looking to control Diagana's arms but Diagana gets an underhook and turns him. Now James has his back to the cage.
Diagana is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. James is defending well for now.
James avoids the elbow strike from Diagana, against the cage.
James throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Diagana blocks it with crossed arms.
James wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Diagana lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Diagana swings wildly with an uppercut but James uses good head movement to avoid it.
James blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
James is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Diagana has James pressed against the cage, preventing James from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

James pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Brett James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
James shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Diagana as he avoids it easily.
James scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Diagana swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Diagana shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts James as he jumps to the side.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
James fails to land the takedown.

Oooooh!!! James has knocked Diagana down with a huge combo! James steps away and waves a wobbly Diagana back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Diagana is rocked!

It looks like Alberto Diagana has been cut.
James keeps the fight on the outside.
Oh Diagana is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Diagana shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has James pinned against the cage. James gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
James cracks Diagana's jaw with two stiff jabs then ducks low and throws a soul-severing right uppercut to the mouth!! Diagana slumps to the ground with blood on his lips. The referee steps in before James can do further damage! This one is done, son!
