PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Scott Hode (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gegard Zaromskis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hode comes to the cage accompanied by Arkansas Razorback Fight Song. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Scott Hode!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gegard Zaromskis!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Luis Engracia and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hode shoots in but Zaromskis avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Hode checks the leg kick nicely there.
Zaromskis lands a nice leg kick that just misses Hode's sensitive parts.
Hode avoids the body shot from Zaromskis.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hode lands a nice looking body shot.
Hode lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zaromskis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Hode manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Zaromskis throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Hode throws a lazy uppercut
and Zaromskis counters with a nice body kick.
Zaromskis takes a swing at Hode's ribcage but misses.
Hode shoots in looking for a takedown. Zaromskis tries to sprawl out of it but Hode keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Zaromskis manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hode misses with an uppercut
and Zaromskis counters with a head kick. That will keep Hode thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Zaromskis moves out of range as Hode strikes.
Hode misses with a lunging right hand
and Zaromskis counters with a thumping low kick.
Hode misses with a takedown attempt
and Zaromskis counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Hode is lucky that one didn't land flush.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scott Hode. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hode moves into range and connects with a jab.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hode misses with an uppercut
and Zaromskis counters with a left to the body.
Zaromskis pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A jab from Hode finds it's way through Zaromskis's defenses.
Zaromskis with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Nice body kick there by Zaromskis.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hode misses with a right hand
and Zaromskis counters with a nice body kick.
A slapping leg kick lands for Zaromskis.
Hode misses with a takedown
and Zaromskis connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hode takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gegard Zaromskis dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Zaromskis throws a low kick but it's checked well by Hode.
Zaromskis throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Hode ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Zaromskis moves away.
Hode misses with a straight left.
Gegard Zaromskis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hode takes a jab right on the kisser.
Hode keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zaromskis tries to land a front kick but Hode steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Hode showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Zaromskis.
Zaromskis misses with a hook
and Hode connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Zaromskis throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Hode takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Zaromskis misses with a body kick.
Gegard Zaromskis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hode blocks a head kick by Zaromskis.
Hode is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Zaromskis.
That kick from Zaromskis tenderised Hode's leg. Hode is trying to keep his angry face on.
Hode avoids the body shot from Zaromskis.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Zaromskis moves away from the strike by Hode.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Zaromskis lands a high kick!
Zaromskis throws a head kick that misses.
Hode takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Hode tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Zaromskis swivels and escapes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Zaromskis walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Hode throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Zaromskis fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Zaromskis fakes the leg kick and cracks Hode in the body.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Zaromskis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gegard Zaromskis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Hode darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Hode prevents Zaromskis from improving his position.
Hode seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Zaromskis does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Hode is thwarting Zaromskis's attempts to control the position.

Zaromskis is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hode pulls his head out easily.
Hode is looking to take a break and control but Zaromskis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hode wants to pass the guard but Zaromskis is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zaromskis gets back to full guard.
Hode lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Hode trying to control but Zaromskis is working from the bottom.
Hode postures up in Zaromskis's guard and throws a big left but Zaromskis blocks it.
Zaromskis tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hode stays in close to Zaromskis's body and controls the position.
Hode wants to control from the top but Zaromskis keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hode is stalling in the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Scott Hode wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Hode scores with a sloppy right hand. Zaromskis should have avoided that one.
Gegard Zaromskis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Zaromskis misses with a body kick.
Hode is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Zaromskis fails with an attempt to clinch.
Zaromskis looks for the body kick but Hode saw that one coming.
Hode looks to score with a jab to the body but Zaromskis is just out of range.
Hode moves out of range as Zaromskis throws a body kick.
A big right from Hode misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Zaromskis pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Zaromskis uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Hode.
Zaromskis tries a head kick but it misses.
Zaromskis wants to clinch up but Hode keeps it at a distance.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Zaromskis throws out a loose jab but Hode uses good head movement to avoid it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Scott Hode showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Zaromskis has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
