PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Truman Roosevelt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fredo Corleone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Corleone has chosen The Godfather Waltz as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Truman Roosevelt could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Fredo Corleone's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fredo Corleone!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roosevelt throws a lazy head kick

and Corleone decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Roosevelt's guard.
Roosevelt on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Roosevelt tries to get out of the position.

Corleone drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Roosevelt dives on top into guard.
Roosevelt passes easily into side control. Nice work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Corleone drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Roosevelt manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Corleone has Roosevelt in his guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Roosevelt has picked Corleone up - he's going for a ride! Roosevelt dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Roosevelt is just content to waste time from the top position. Corleone takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Roosevelt just misses with a elbow thrown towards Corleone's brow.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Roosevelt lands a knee to the head.
Corleone drops down looking for an ankle pick but Roosevelt pulls his leg out and moves away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Fredo Corleone is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Truman Roosevelt wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Corleone shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Roosevelt sprawls well. Roosevelt wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Corleone gets slowly back to his feet.
