Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Rojas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcel Kern (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marcel Kern has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gabriel Rojas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Marcel Kern!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kern forces Rojas back against the ropes and clinches.
Kern lands an elbow that stopped Rojas in his tracks for a moment.
Rojas is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Kern is keeping busy.

Kern has clasped his hands together around Rojas's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Rojas is looking to reverse the position.
Rojas manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kern's best efforts.
Rojas is pressing down on Kern's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Kern throws and elbow that misses. Rojas uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kern's guard. Nice move by Rojas!

Kern working a defensive guard but Rojas passes into half guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Rojas passes the guard and advances to mount!
Rojas misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Kern tries to reverse the position but Rojas maintains control.
Kern is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Kern sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Kern keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Rojas lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Kern gets back to half guard.
Rojas is just content to waste time from the top position. Kern takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Rojas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kern swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kern pulls Rojas in close to prevent any damage.
Kern is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Still in half guard, Kern seems content to control.
It looks like Kern might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Kern wants to control but Rojas is keeping him busy.
Kern tries to pass to full mount but Rojas defends it.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Marcel Kern wasn't active enough on the ground.

and Rojas counters with a single leg into guard. Kern didn't expect that.
Kern is trying to keep Rojas in close.
Rojas passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gabriel Rojas will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.



Kern shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kern showed some decent athleticism there.

Kern is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rojas sees it coming and defends easily.

Kern stands up and beckons Rojas to join him on the feet.

Kern looking to control but instead Rojas has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

Kern is looking for a kimura but Rojas is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kern to get the leverage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kern throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Kern controlling the action here.

Rojas is defending against the submission attempts here by Kern.

Kern decides to stand up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kern falls off balance throwing a combination

and Rojas counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Kern is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rojas in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kern trying to keep a closed guard but Rojas is proving a slippery customer.
Kern bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rojas's guard.
Marcel Kern has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kern looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Kern passes Rojas's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Rojas keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Kern wants to free his trapped foot but Rojas is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Kern is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Kern fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Kern is landing with some decent strikes but Rojas is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Kern can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rojas is looking to escape.

Kern pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Kern tries to control but Rojas wriggling away.
Kern has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Rojas's face.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcel Kern showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Kern drives through with a takedown into Rojas's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Kern pushes down on Rojas's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Kern seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kern wants to stand but Rojas has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Rojas is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Kern is keen to just control but Rojas is a slippery customer.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rojas wants to get back to full guard but Kern has passed into side control.
Rojas is trying to control Kern's posture but Kern avoids it.

Kern wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rojas, who protects the arm well.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kern is looking to take a break and control but Rojas is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Kern is chipping away with strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Kern tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kern has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Kern has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Rojas tries to hold on but Kern postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rojas holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Kern tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

And that's the end of the fight!
Marcel Kern comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kern has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
