PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mohammed Unsui (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karamba Labrador (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mohammed Unsui!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Karamba Labrador!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Johanna Lukiainen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A clash of legs there as Labrador blocks the low kick.
Unsui gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Labrador counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Unsui's guard now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Labrador decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Unsui, up you get!

Labrador has Unsui up against the cage in a clinch.
Labrador gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Unsui.

Labrador ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Labrador no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Unsui gets to his feet - Labrador follows without any prompting.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Labrador accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Labrador really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Unsui. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Unsui looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Unsui is breathing heavily.
Unsui preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Labrador slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Unsui trying to control the position.

Labrador postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Unsui is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Labrador, into his guard.
Labrador has control of Unsui's left arm, preventing Unsui from doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Labrador wants to stand but Unsui is controlling the position.
Labrador looking for a sweep. Not yet Labrador, not yet.
Labrador looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Labrador is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Karamba Labrador wasn't active enough on the ground.
Labrador throws a head kick but Unsui moves out of range.
Unsui shoots and misses

and Labrador counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Labrador fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Unsui sprawls well initially but Labrador persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Unsui really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Labrador is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Labrador winds up and cracks Unsui with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karamba Labrador dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Labrador throws a right and a left that both miss.

Labrador gets to mount! Unsui was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Labrador can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Unsui is looking to escape.
Labrador cracks Unsui with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Unsui tries to lock up and control but Labrador gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Unsui keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Labrador stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Labrador gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Labrador wants the takedown. Unsui is fighting it off but Labrador persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Unsui's guard against the cage.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Labrador throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Unsui tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Labrador is in Unsui's guard.
Unsui wants to sweep here but Labrador controlling him for the moment.
Unsui will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Labrador wants to pass the guard but Unsui is keeping the position.

Unsui is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Labrador manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Karamba Labrador showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Labrador rushes Unsui and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Labrador jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Unsui walks away with a smile on his face. Labrador gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Labrador fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

so Labrador counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Labrador must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Labrador is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Labrador stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Unsui swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Labrador closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Unsui to the mat! Unsui manages to get full guard.
Unsui utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Labrador slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Labrador stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Unsui swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Labrador wanted to stand there but Unsui had control of the position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Karamba Labrador hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Labrador drives through and clinches with Unsui against the cage.
Labrador works on Unsui's body with a couple of short punches.

Labrador jumps into guard, dragging Unsui to the mat.
Labrador is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Unsui is controlling him.
Labrador has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

And that's the end of the fight!
Karamba Labrador comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Labrador has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
