The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ernie lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Buckingham circles away quickly and effectively.
Ernie throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Buckingham's waist but Buckingham gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ernie off to one side.

and Ernie decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Buckingham's guard.
Ernie really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Ernie changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Buckingham tries to avoid it but Ernie manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Buckingham to the ground. Buckingham escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bert Ernie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
