PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Franklyn Vass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tutuy Delacruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vass comes to the ring accompanied by Highway to Hell (AC/DC). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Franklyn Vass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tutuy Delacruz!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Delacruz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Vass sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Delacruz somewhat.
Delacruz throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Delacruz looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Vass is fending him off so far but Delacruz persists. Nope, Vass circles away and we're back to standing.
Delacruz throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Vass counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Delacruz's guard now.
Delacruz has his hands on Vass's head, controlling the position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Vass's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Vass thows a big elbow that misses.
Delacruz is pulling down on Vass's head. It's preventing any offense from Vass, at least for the moment.
Vass trying to control but Delacruz is working from the bottom.
Delacruz seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Vass wants to pass the guard but Delacruz is keeping the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Vass fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Vass is looking to clinch but Delacruz is avoiding it.

and Delacruz decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Vass's guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Vass wants to stand up but Delacruz is controlling him.
Delacruz working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Delacruz looking to sit in guard and control but Vass gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Delacruz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vass can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Vass is stalling in the full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Vass preventing the sweep.
Delacruz is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Vass trying to control but Delacruz is working from the bottom.

Vass trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Franklyn Vass has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Vass slips a jab and a cross from Delacruz.
Vass scores with a spinning back kick!

Vass looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Delacruz!
Vass takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vass has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Franklyn Vass will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Vass closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Delacruz to the mat! Delacruz manages to get full guard.
Vass controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Vass stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Delacruz swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Delacruz is looking for a triangle here but Vass uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Delacruz is trying to control Vass's posture but Vass avoids it.

Vass stands up and we're back to a striking position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Vass feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Delacruz is breathing heavily.
Vass stops Delacruz from standing up.
Vass stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Delacruz swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Delacruz is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Delacruz can't keep his opponent in guard - Vass advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Vass controlling the action here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Delacruz is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Vass scores with a couple of nice shots.

Vass stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Delacruz to get to his feet.
Delacruz moves in looking to clinch but Vass pushes him off.
Delacruz tries to close the distance and clinch but Vass swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Vass avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Vass clinches up against the ropes.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Delacruz is trying to break the clinch but Vass is controlling him.
Delacruz tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Vass avoids it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vass fails to pull guard.
Vass tries to circle away but Delacruz has him pinned against the ropes.
Vass fails to pull guard.
Vass has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Delacruz is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Franklyn Vass. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vass gets underhooks to prevent Delacruz's takedown attempt.
Vass tries for a takedown. No joy.
Delacruz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Vass walks away with a smile on his face. Delacruz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Delacruz wants to control but Vass is having none of it.
Vass controlling the position easily from mount.
Vass seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Delacruz for as long as he can get away with.

Delacruz flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Delacruz has given up his back here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vass controlling the position well here. Delacruz rolled but Vass kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Vass closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Vass wants to lay and pray for a moment but Delacruz keeps working.
Delacruz tries to bench press Vass off him but Vass keeps the position.
Delacruz seems a little lost for a moment, as Vass dominates the positioning.

Delacruz is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Delacruz takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Vass has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Delacruz is fighting to break Vass's control of his arms but Vass is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Vass on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Vass tries to get out of the position.

Franklyn Vass overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Delacruz sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Vass's guard.

Vass is trying to maintain the position but Delacruz is very close to passing his half guard.
Delacruz tries to pass to full mount but Vass defends it.
Vass is trying to stand up here but Delacruz is controlling him well.

Vass is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Vass pushes Delacruz off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Vass moves into range and clinches up with Delacruz.
Delacruz tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Vass avoids it.

Vass tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Delacruz smiles and moves away.

and Vass counters with a stiff right hand.

Vass gets the takedown into side control.

Vass tries for a kimura but Delacruz is defending well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Vass working away.
Delacruz is looking for a sweep.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Delacruz wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Vass has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Delacruz's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Delacruz is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Vass!
