The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kivel lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Simpson backs up against the cage.
Kivel is looking to score with low kicks.

Kivel drives through and clinches with Simpson against the cage.
Kivel tries to stall but Simpson uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Simpson working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.

Kivel breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and Simpson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

and Simpson counters by clinching up.
Kivel is trying to push Simpson away but Simpson has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Simpson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kivel walks away with a smile on his face. Simpson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Simpson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Simpson.
Simpson creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Kivel misses with a body punch.
A right hand to the body from Simpson.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Kivel's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Cyril Kivel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kivel swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Simpson counters with a crisp one two that drops Kivel! Simpson thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Kivel to his feet! Kivel is in big trouble!

Simpson throws an uppercut from hell that sends Kivel clean off his feet! He's out cold! Simpson stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.
