PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Vince Mimsy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yoshihiro Takaya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mimsy kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Dropkick Murphys - Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ya. Takaya has chosen Jimi Hendrix - All along the Watchtower as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Vince Mimsy!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Yoshihiro Takaya!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Bruno Hogan and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Takaya misses with a lunging right hand
and Mimsy counters with a nice kick to the body.
Takaya paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Mimsy tries to clinch but Takaya is having none of it.
Takaya throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Mimsy counters with a shoot takedown. Takaya fights it but they end up in guard.
Takaya wants to hit a switch here but Mimsy passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Takaya there!
Mimsy prevents Takaya from getting the reversal.

Mimsy goes for an armbar but Takaya turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Takaya.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Takaya trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Takaya slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Mimsy is looking to stand up but Takaya isn't so interested in that idea.
Takaya wants to control from the top but Mimsy keeps moving.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Takaya tries to free his leg and advance position but Mimsy is retaining full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mimsy utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Takaya throwing strikes from guard but Mimsy blocks nicely.

Mimsy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Takaya is one step ahead there.
Mimsy is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Takaya lands with a cross.
Yoshihiro Takaya seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fighters circle momentarily. Takaya darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Mimsy tries to move into range but Takaya moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Mimsy doesn't manage to clinch there - Takaya circles away.
Takaya ducks under a wild hook from Mimsy.
A looping hook to the body misses from Mimsy. Takaya does a little dance to reset his feet.
Mimsy pivots, looking for a leg kick but Takaya is out of range and Mimsy settles back down.
Takaya fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Takaya misses with a shot to the body
and Mimsy counters with a nice uppercut.
Mimsy staying out of range there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Takaya gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Mimsy counters with a slapping leg kick.
Takaya throws a jab when Mimsy was well out of range.
Takaya misses with a shot to the body

so Mimsy counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Takaya wants to get back to his feet but Mimsy is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Takaya can't keep his opponent in guard - Mimsy advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Takaya is looking to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vince Mimsy dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Takaya shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Mimsy eats them both and turns towards Takaya to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

and Mimsy counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Takaya working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Mimsy.
Mimsy wants to pass the guard but Takaya is keeping the position.
Mimsy trying to control the position from guard on top but Takaya is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Takaya is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Vince Mimsy just wasn't active enough.
Takaya throws the left hand but Mimsy avoids the punch easily.
Takaya misses with a lunging right hand
and Mimsy counters with a nice low kick that buckles Takaya's knee momentarily.

and Mimsy counters with a body kick.
Takaya falls off balance throwing a combination

and Mimsy counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Takaya's guard now.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Yoshihiro Takaya was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Takaya tests Mimsy's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Mimsy keeps the fight on the outside.

Takaya gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Vince Mimsy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yoshihiro Takaya.

and Mimsy counters with a right hand to the body.

Takaya dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Takaya closes the distance looking to clinch
and Mimsy counters with a nice uppercut.
Takaya takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Mimsy closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Takaya shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Mimsy counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Takaya misses with a combination

and Mimsy counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Takaya looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Mimsy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Takaya swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Takaya is trying to keep Mimsy in close.
Takaya manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Mimsy's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Takaya tries for a takedown but Mimsy circles away easily

and Mimsy decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Takaya's guard.

Takaya is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mimsy is aware though and is defending well.
Takaya keeping moving, preventing Mimsy from controlling successfully.

Takaya gets back to full guard.

Mimsy slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Takaya is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Takaya parries the strikes from Mimsy easily there. Mimsy is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Takaya to escape.
Takaya tries to improve position but can't.
Takaya tries to escape but Mimsy is in control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Takaya takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Takaya is looking to regain half guard here but Mimsy keeps moving and retains side control.

Mimsy tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mimsy has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Takaya is looking for a sweep.

Mimsy taking a break here but Takaya is having none of it and regains half guard.
Takaya gets full guard.
Takaya manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Takaya lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Takaya jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Mimsy is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Mimsy and Takaya has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Takaya is working to tighten is grip on Mimsy's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Mimsy has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Takaya is really squeezing tight and eventually Mimsy passes out! Takaya breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Yoshihiro Takaya! Yoshihiro Takaya retains his featherweight title!
