PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Alpha Dog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tycho Brahe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brahe is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Astronomy by Metallica. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alpha Dog!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tycho Brahe!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Hugh Johnson and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dog shoots for a double leg takedown but Brahe sprawls well. He's pushed Dog's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Dog shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Dog was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Brahe is controlling an arm, preventing Dog from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Dog with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Dog is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Brahe has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Dog goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Brahe turns into him and now he's in Dog's guard.

Brahe wants to control from the top but Dog keeps moving.
Dog wants to sweep but no luck.

Brahe avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Brahe is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Brahe's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Dog tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Tycho Brahe was stalling too much, according to the referee.

and Brahe counters by moving into the clinch.

Brahe lands a knee to the body.
Dog really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Dog goes for a takedown in the clinch but Brahe prevents it.

Brahe is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Dog is defending well for now.

Dog has picked Brahe up - he's going for a ride! Dog dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Brahe is trying to get back to full guard.

Dog is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Brahe doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Dog.

Dog is looking for a kimura here.

Dog is working for a submission of some sort.
Brahe wants to control but Dog is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Alpha Dog will probably get the nod.
That's time! Dog's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Dog drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Brahe dives on top into guard.
Dog is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Dog trying to keep a closed guard but Brahe is proving a slippery customer.

Brahe must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Dog is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Dog will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Brahe looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Dog has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Brahe can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Dog wants to sweep here but Brahe controlling him for the moment.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Brahe is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Brahe throwing strikes from guard but Dog blocks nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Alpha Dog will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Dog swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Brahe is now in Dog's guard. A big mistake from Dog there, giving up the dominant position!

Dog looking to hit a scissor sweep but Brahe is one step ahead there.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Tycho Brahe hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

and Brahe makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Dog really felt that one!

Dog is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Brahe defends it well.

Dog is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Brahe has managed to free his arm - good work.
Brahe moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Dog is looking for a kimura here.

Dog is looking for a kimura but Brahe is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dog to get the leverage.

Dog looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Dog wants to pass the guard but Brahe is defending well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Tycho Brahe has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Alpha Dog showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dog, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
