Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joseph Watson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Finch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Watson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Sick Puppies - You're Going Down. The key to victory for Joseph Watson has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joseph Watson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Finch!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Russell Pearce and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Watson throws the kick towards the body but Finch avoids it.
Watson looks for the body kick but Finch saw that one coming.
Finch circles away from the clinch attempt.
Finch takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Watson is looking to land body kicks.
Watson misses with a straight right.
Finch blocks a head kick by Watson.
Watson throws a sloppy head kick and Finch moves out of range easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Watson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Finch pinned against the cage. Finch gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Watson fails to land the takedown.

Finch misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Watson.
Joseph Watson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Finch changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Watson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Watson is trying to control Finch's posture but Finch avoids it.
Finch controls the position from side control.

Finch is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Watson has escaped the position, nice work there.

Finch throwing strikes but Watson manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Finch tries to improve position but can't.
Finch trying to control but Watson flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

Watson is trying to stick to Finch's back but Finch is turning into Watson. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Watson's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Finch.
Finch seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Watson is breathing heavily.

Finch sitting in guard, not really doing much.
I looks like Finch might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Despite being in the dominant position, Jake Finch just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Finch is looking to score with low kicks.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Watson tries a head kick but it misses.
Finch misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Watson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Finch throws a body punch but Watson moves out of range.
Finch tries for a takedown but Watson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

and Finch counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joseph Watson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Finch tries to free his leg and advance position but Watson is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Finch throws an off balance right hand
and Watson counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Finch is lucky that one didn't land flush.
An inside leg kick from Finch misses.
Watson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Finch but Finch pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Finch moves into the clinch successfully.
Watson on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Finch is looking to control Watson's arms but Watson gets an underhook and turns him. Now Finch has his back to the cage.

Finch scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Finch is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Watson has escaped the position, nice work there.
Watson gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Finch tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Finch goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Watson turns into him and now he's in Finch's guard.
Watson is looking to stand up but Finch won't let him.
Watson wants to control from the top but Finch keeps moving.

Finch looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Finch working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Watson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Watson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Finch has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Finch is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Finch takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Watson has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Finch avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Watson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Finch is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Watson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Watson tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Finch cracks the inside of Watson's front leg.
Finch throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Watson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Watson thows a left - swing and a miss!
A head kick from Watson lands but Finch takes it in his stride.
Watson does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Watson doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Finch counters by clinching up.

Watson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Finch uses from the top position.
Finch is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Finch content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Watson is trying to control the position but Finch postures up.
Finch passes into half guard.
Still in half guard, Finch seems content to control.
Finch is keen to just control but Watson is a slippery customer.
